weire record player question

ok......i have LOTS of records.

 it so happened that for some odd reason, i looked through a radioshack sale flyer.....and in there, they have a turntable that connects to your computer though a usb...and it records the records right to mp3's.
 there's a vcr with the same hook up....and coincinditally, i have lots of good movies on vhs.


 any of you guys ever heard of these things? do they work well?

I had no idea such a thing existed.....but this sounds very interesting as I still have hundreds of my old albums.

i left the flyer on my desk at work...i think the turntable was somethign like 69 bucks? and the vcr was about 89.

My dad has a buddy who's collected some 15,000 45's over the years.  I remember hearing int he early 90's he spend a small fortune on equipment to burn it to CD's and I believe later on he went to MP3.

I've got one in my "warehouse". Inherited it after a friend upgraded to 7 and was no longer supported. I've heard some transfers and they sound fine. The restoration software seems to work pretty well. Just make sure they will transfer to .wav as well as MP3. I figure they all do but....

Staples has these also. One for LP's and one for VCR tapes. They are about $100 each. Havent tried them myself but for $100 thats a little high for me.

I did see at K-mart that there is a stereo, turntable, and cd player for around $80 that looks nice.

I spent $3 for mine thought, got it at a yard sale last summer

We looking at getting one of these, both my wife and I have extensive vinyl collections. Plus both of our parents are also interested in converting a bunch of vinyl to CD.

After finding a hardware review of the best 5 I'm looking at Audio-Technica AT-LP2D-USB which sells for around 100$.
Ion is cheaper at around 70$ but its made cheaper, plastic platter vs metal, and other missing features.

If I can rip a bunch of the old songs to MP3 by way of a usb turntable, then write to CD/DVD thats probably worth the money for me. Even more so when I get our parents to dish out X$ apiece for converting theirs.

I still have over 2,000 albums from working in radio.  At one station I was lucky enough to be there when they went from vynal to CD.  I got first dibs on the record room.  It took my van and multiple trips to get them all home.  All had mint sleeves.  Some were never opened and still in their sealed from the factory plastic.

Funny - my husband just mentioned that to me the other day - he saw one & almost bought it.

Not only for VHS tapes (he's saved several sets of his, mostly civil war documentaries) transferred to DVD through your computer, but also music tapes transferred to CDs (also though the computer).

I'd love to get rid of those boxes of tapes that we haven't gotten rid of this way.

This reminds me of when CDs were first becoming popular.
I remember one of the rock stations I used to listen to touted that ALL their misuc was ALL on CD. They used to endlessly advertise that.
right after one such advertisement they played "Stairway to heaven" and it was playing fine. when all of a sudden it went

You know special converting hardware isn't necessary if you're going to convert an old cassette tape to CD? Just use your old cassette player along with a 1/8" stereo miniplug to 1/8" stereo miniplug cable. Plug one end of the cable into the headphone slot of your cassette player and the other end into the input slot of your sound card. Afterward use a program such as Audacity to record from the input slot. I've recorded quite a few songs using the method. Only cost me $3 for the cable.
