J-3 landed on the freeway
« on: February 13, 2010, 03:51:51 PM »
This moring I was watch TXCN, it is, for those of you not in Texas, a cable news network dedicated to Texas news.  So on with the story, a plane laned on I-10 when they showed the picture is was a J-3.  The news person said that the pilot Merged with traffic, after having an engine problem, and landed on I-10.  Not that hard to believe it is after all a J-3.  Then the plane was inspected by the NTSB, and cited as safe to fly, and then took off from the same road as DPS closed the road for him.  Well then they showed the interview, the Reporter asked the pilot, he looked all of about 24, "Were you ever near death?"  He replied, I like to fell out of the chair,"No I was near Beorne"  Which is close to San Antonio.
Things like this make me think, ONLY IN TEXAS.  I love this state.

It could have been something as simple as Carberator Ice.  If it had been Fuel Starvation, or lack there of, the NTSB and F.A.A. would have wanted to talk to him.  Carb Ice can happen on Clear days, I know I landed on the Yuterria because of it, And that is a desolate place.  I heard two buzzards say "TO hell with waiting, Lets go kill something."

From what I remember of I 10, is it pretty much like a runway all the way thru Texas; except where it meets with I 45 in Houston, then it is more like old Kai Tek airport.

Nope the Cessna landed north of the Red river, somewhere between Sherman and Canada, and between Vidor and the Atlantic ocean. :D
