Cool Idea for CARRIER OPS!
« on: September 20, 2000, 02:00:00 PM »
When launching from CV lets have the option to start ***IN THE HANGER***, taxi to the elevator, hit a command key and lift **UP** to the deck.

At this point you can give the splendid command to ****UNFOLD WINGS****, taxi into takeoff position and let er rippppppp!

This has just got to be done!  Pyro, HT wasnt too jazzed on the programing necessary for folding wings!  WHATS DOES I GOTS TO DO?

This would make AcesHigh far superior over any other WW2 Naval simulation ever devised by sane minds.

Beer?

Great idea Yeager!  Also, the internal hangar could have the bomb/rocket loadouts there as well.

How would adding something unrealistic make AH better than the other sims?

How about some of the hanger deck catapults that some of the WW2 Carriers had?...That would be cool too!

I guess Karnak means that the real pilots didn't move the planes from the hangar deck to the flight deck?  That was the job of the mechanics, I believe?

But that minor detail aside, I'd like to ride up and down on the elevator.

But I can almost picture the following scenario -  Hangar Deck Wars:

"I wan't to press the button!"
"No, I wan't to do it!"
"Screw you, I want to do it!"
"Oh yeah?!"
TAKATAKATAKA - KABOOOM!!
"There.  That's better.  "
"click"
"whirl whirl -- bzzzzzzzz......"

And seconds later my Brewster screams across the flight deck into the clear blue skies.

...and unfolding the wings was not done by a press on a button either and then wait for 10 sec

Huh? What are you on about Camo? Maybe they had to pull the lever or something but unfolding was definitely a pilot controlled thing although it took longer than 10 seconds  .

Any longer than 10 sec. and your going to lose customers due to the fact that most fly the sim to do exactly that, fly.

We don't even have to roll on the runway

Planes were usually also prepared on the deck before a mission.
If the planes were still under the deck when alert comes, it was already too late to bring them up... (it takes something like half hour to prepare those planes.. at least)

Rendar,
Yeager was talking about taxing in the hangar deck.  It nver happened.  The only time an aircraft engine would be turned on down there is when a mechanic was working on it.

To bring it up went something like the following:

1.  Tow empty aircraft to the elevator.
2.  Use elevator to lift empty aircraft to flight deck.
3.  Tow empty aircraft to its position.
4.  Unfold the wings of the empty aircraft.
5.  Pilot gets in empty aircraft.
6.  Aircraft takes off.

How about a "move" type of thing, like what we have now when you climb up to your aircraft when you hit fly, but on a carrier it would be an animation of your aircraft taxing to the aircraft elevator, etc.
