What's the point of driving 200 laps if only the last 5 actually matter? Why not just have them run 5 crash free laps, pick a winner from that, and call it a day? :)

Do you read only the last chapter of a book? The build up to the end is important as those top ten cars fought all day to be in position to win. They weaved thier way through traffic, avoided the earlier crashes and blowing a tire in "the Black Hole" like Jimmie Johnson did. They had good pit stops, with adjustments and fuel strategy. The dozens of people in the shop and at the race did thier jobs to perfection or they wouldn't have made it 500 miles at 190mph.
I always wanted to fight an impossible battle against incredible odds.

Actually only the last foot matters, NASCAR racing is about endurance, strategy, skill and among other things luck.

You dont play that out over five laps...

Watkins Glenn and Infineon is correct.

Fixed

Besides The Glen and Infineon, the Nationwide series also runs at Road America and Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Montreal. Personally, I like watching road races but most tracks are too narrow for good racing. It's all follow the leader.
They really need to go to the split screen with the commerical on one side. Live race feed on the other.
You need DirecTv's HotPass. It's free and you get split screen with the network feed and the in car video with team radio and telemetry. :aok

well, I have longed for the day I see someone do what Rusty Wallace did at Richmond back in 90? 91? ( may have been earlier ) where he was 6 laps down and raced his way back to the lead lap and won the race......

lot of Kyle Busch dis-likers out there, but Mike helton telling him to keep on doing what he does and not to change at the Nationwide Champ. banquet and now Nascar saying they putting it back in the Driver's hands.....hopefully we will see some exciting racing this year.....

anyhows.... lets see what happens next weekend......

rpm, They always interchange Infineon & Sonoma all the time..... Infineon is in Sonoma......just saying

A good drag race lasts under 10 seconds, and it's exciting as hell.  :aok

I'm biased. I think cars should turn both directions, with the sole exception of the STP Lotus turbine cars (best oval track cars ever). When you start watching factory series, those races are all generally short. Mazda, Ferrari, BMW, etc. Not many laps, just a fast shoot-out. I find a hot lap qualifier followed by a short race shoot-out to be fun to watch. Everything tends to be hyper-aggressive, which you just don't see on long races until.. the last 5 laps.

one of my favorite things in nascar(when i used to watch it all the time) was when they took them to watkins glen(i think?) and there was another road course......

it was a BLAST watching them throw those cars around those road courses.

 i love drag races...........

Mustangs and Camaros and Challengers duking it out.  That would be real "stock car" racing.

your thinking of the old Trans-Am series

So wait, you mean Danica hasn't saved NASCAR yet?

(Not that I even care about NASCAR in the first place, but with all the attention by the sports media you'd think it was the frelling Second Coming).
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

FYI, ARCA and Nationwide audience was up 60% with Danica in the field.

I did not know NASCAR was in need of saving........ it is the only Sport that pulls in over 100,000+ in audience in person, let alone those watching on TV, every weekend...year after year...... and for places like Indianapolis, I was there the Inaugural Race and it was sold out over 480,000+ with the city being overwhelmed with another 100,000+ beyond that.....

The media is what causes all the hipe about everything from positive to negative....... if the media did not put their spin on things, it would be even better ( my opinion of course )

Danica did good, her first outing...... and yes, she will just help the sport grow more and bring more fans to the table for all 4 major series....
