Need opinions/views on All-Terrain or Mud Terrain Tire choices
« on: February 15, 2010, 09:31:17 AM »
Hello O'Club,

I do not normally even view or post to threads here..
but I am in need of replacing my Pro Comp 35x12.5 17" tires on my Dodge Ram

The tire prices have sky rocketed in the last 7 months, some brands nearly up $80 to $90 over what they were just 6 or 7 months ago....

My truck is a  2000 Dodge Larimie SLT Ext Cab 4x4 with 6 inch suspension lift and 4 inch body lift.......

I like Pro Comps, they have lasted me a good 48 to 50,000 miles with even tread wear

some have recommended Maxxis,  Nitto, Mickey Thompson

I have found the following to be my lowest price so far, but they are 37x12.50 17"
http://www.carolina-tire.com/viewproduct.php?id=678

the price is awesome, but how is it going to affect my speedo being a taller tire?

I run BF Goodrich MK2's (Mud Terrains)

They are a good all around tire with just a little noise.

Shuff, that's what I linked to in my above post.... did you notice the price?  that is like 1/2 off from every other place I have searched....

my Pro Comps had no road noise at all, am wondering how much you mean by "just a little"?

edit: the price of the
BF Goodrich Mud Terrain T/A KM2  37x12.50 17"

Manufacturer : BF Goodrich

Size : 37x|12.5|17

Ply Rating : 8 Ply

Sidewall : RWL

Price: $-154.25 ea.

I'm running Kelly Safari's TSR  285/70/17 little over 22k on them and hardly any wear, there quiet and they work like an animal off road mine are on an 2004 Ford F150 FX4 with a 4 inch lift, its a beast offroad as far as traction tires really hog the ground when needed, on paved roads there very smooth and quiet.

Mud Terrains and every Mud Tire suck on wet roads.   Consider that when you're looking into tires Johnny.   I'd say go with a BFG All Terrain KO.   Better, Softer compound for Daily Driving and still aggressive for going on 95% of the trails.

As far as the speedo...

You will see around 5% increase in mph over what the speedometer reads right now.

While you see 50 mph , the vehicle is moving around 52.5 mph....

I got mine at Discount Tire. around 269.00

Mine are fine on wet roads. You can feel the lugs when at a snails pace as your stopping. The noise is unlike many mudder tires I've used in the past and is acceptable in my book. If you go with All Terrains you will be almost completely noise free. They do not have the tread running onto the sidewall though. The sidewall tread is a big help in mud or rock.

Through my Dad I can get you a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers 295/70/17 for $125 a piece plus shipping, down normally from $215. A customer bought them and installed them for a couple of days before they realized they were D load range and switched to E load range. He said they were basically on long enough to wear the mold release agent off. My Dad manages a Tire Kingdom so he gets deals like this every now and then from trade ins. Here is a picture for tread comparison, I could take some pictures of the actual tire if your really interested.

Even at 20-30 dollars for shipping each (could be more or less) they would still make a killer deal for you.

shoot me a PM, and or email me thru my profile ...... 1st thing would be how far away you(your Dad ) is from me for shipping cost purposes.

I just priced a Brand New set of the exact same thing for $749.53 installed complete...  295/70R17  ( basically 33" )
