Recon version of the J.  Kinda looks like the diff. style of glass nose would be better for filming vid.

I believe that's a place for the observer, slightly modified because of the restorations.

This is a P-38 J 'droop snoot' model. Used for bombing not for recon.

The glass nose was where the bombardier and the norden bombsight would be located. This P38 was used to act as a bombardier for level bombing flights of P-38s (you know..lead drops bombs, all drop bombs).

Although this is not a reputable source (for that you ask Widewing!) , here's an article to give you an idea:

The recon model (F-5... incidentally the very type the author of 'The Little Prince' flew and died in) had 1 pilot and camera equipment mounted on the side of the nose (no glass nose).

Tac, Jager is right.

That nose is a post WWII modification, the pic is neither a droopsnoot nor a photo recon P38.

Ive heard of a 38 model with a bombsight....but someone also said it had the guns still too. Any truth to this? If so that plane should be made and have a 20 perk base line.
