Transferring files to another computer

How hard would it be to transfer files from one computer to another? I'm asking because we're going to look at computers tomorrow since this one has just about had it. I'd like to just send my AHII folder (and other files) to the new computer rather than re-downloading everything.  I'm guessing it would involved some kind of burning the files onto a floppy or CD and transferring them that way (not entirely sure on that though, I just happened to see my dad do that once long ago). I could probably do it with a little help and step-by-step.

Any help is appreciated.

I like the USB flash drives..... I have 2 or 3 8 gig USB sticks that I can quickly copy complete folders, etc..... to it and transfer from one pc to the next.....

they are fairly cheap are "REUSABLE" over & over again...... and to me are very handy to have......

2 of them came with pre-installed docking-systems like the U3 on my SanDisk Cruzer model....... I formatted it and took this crap off immediately.....

If you do have one of these or go get one, be sure to read up on which way you might want to format it.... ( if you even do want to format it !!! the reason I formatted mine, is to have them simply for storage, and to get rid of the autorun function the pre-installed software causes )

FAT, FAT16, FAT32, NTFS  file type structure.......... most people would prob use the FAT32 or NTFS  file types when/if  (re)formatting them to get rid of any pre-installed autorun program features
( I am saying consider doing this only if you do not want to have a USB flash drive that has pre-installed docking software to automatically load itself on to your pc everytime you plug it in )......


just an idea......

this way is alot less expensive than burning a bunch of CDR's or DVDR's just to transfer files......

I do have 1 USB stick, but I know we've used it a lot in the past for many different things, so I have no idea what's on it right now. I'll have to pick up 1 or 2 when I'm out tomorrow.

Obviously your going to have to install the game and other applications because most of them write to the registry so you aren't going to be able to just drag the whole AH folder over but you will be able to drag your setings folder over (joystick, views, etc.).

Windows has a "Transfer files and settings" application that you can use to get your documents, photos, personal settings, etc. over to the new machine but you might want to check to make sure it gets everything.  I don't know that it will check the AHII folder.

I'd suggest you run that before buying a new flash drive so you know what size drive you'll need to get the bulk of your files and settings over.

Got a free 16GB one at a trade show in Texas this past week...replaced my old 2GB one. Works great.

Today I had occasion to use the MS "Easy File Transfer" at work, moving stuff off an old Win XP box onto a new Win 7 box.  First time I've ever used this.  Put both boxes on my network, fire it up on the Win 7 box, follow prompts, answer questions, point-and-click to select drives, folders, files.  Very, very easy!

If he has both computers set up with monitors, keyboards etc he can just network them for file transfer. If he needs to transfer files I assume only one PC will be available at a time. If the file transfer doesn't work it would be handy to have the files already backed up and it's always a good idea to have backups of data you don't want to lose like your documents and AH settings folder.

Double layer dvd burner, my disks cost me aprox 1$ each, but each holds over 8gig of data.

Easy to transfer, plus you have a backup.

I take everything that I want to keep like files with skins, photos, etc... and dump it all to either a flash drive or my external hard drive and from there I don't worry about anything else. I just format and start over.

Got my new computer!  

My dad showed up with a 700GB hard drive that we can send all the files too, so we didn't need the USB stick after all. Nearly finished setting everything up, and then I can start shooting you all down again, but on a 23" monitor!  


Question: Do I need to do anything special for a 1920x1080 resolution before I can play AHII?? I noticed in video settings that resolution only goes up to 1024.

Keep in mind, resolution and textures are two different things.

If you wish to run 1024 Textures, you have to download the hi-res texture pack from here... otherwise just select 512 textures.  Without knowing the specifications of your new system, it's hard to tell you if it is even capable of smoothly running 1024 textures.

You need to look at the documentation for your monitor and find out the native resolution... most likely it's going to be 1920X1200 or 1600X1050 or something like that.  For Aces High, just select whichever resolution matches your monitors native resolution.

It goes past that but I think you might have to click something that says "show all resolutions" or something like that.
