Windscreen Cleaner
« on: February 23, 2010, 02:46:57 PM »
In WWII the German aircraft had windscreen washers which sprayed fuel on the glass to wash away oil. Is this something we could get?

Which aircraft? Why do you want this? So you can continue fighting even though your oil has been hit and your plane crippled? Again, which aircraft? Also, wouldn't your wish be applicable to only German single engine craft?

Also, oil on the back of a bubble cannopy aircraft seems a little off. Front, top, and sides I could see, but back all the way down?

Ever try to spit out of a car on the highway?  :lol

Honestly I don't understand the aerodynamics of it all so I'm not going to argue it.  Anyway, that has absolutely nothing to do with the OP, it was completely random, don't hijack the thread.

ALL German single engine fighters had it. It allowed the pilot to get down or continue to fight for a critical period of time. The oil splatters we deal with in the game are not as bad as the real life version. Still would like the option.

OK, it appears I was wrong about the back of the canopy thing.

Too the OP,

We can still fly and fight with the oil spatters we have now. I've gotten several kills while my canopy has both oil and blood spots on it. It gets annoying yes, but I don't think its to the point where we need this.

Referenced several times in LUFTWAFFE FIGHTER ACE by Norbert Hannig. 46 kills in 109's, 190's and 262's. There's another book which I will have to dig for where the pilot also refs. it. He used them many times so they probably weren't a figure of his imagination. No wipers just fuel sprayer.

Danke mein Bruder......  Now I have a reference point.  I'll start taking a look around but I'm thinking (based on Hannig himself... VERY INTELLIGENT MAN) he may have been able to jury-rig a system that he incorporated into his own crafts.    :salute
