Just pulled the trigger!
« on: February 24, 2010, 04:26:51 PM »
On this....

Any advice on the transition to rudder pedals and FFB? Both are going to be a rather new experience for me. My older X52 (two years of hard labor) has been losing calibration, intermittently, and then only when heavily engaged. I went so far as to get it over nighted so I can use it for the scenario and bracket duel this weekend.

I hope to see the sucker tomorrow but I ordered after 5 PM EST so I dont know, would be nice though.

rudder pedals is going to take you between 2 weeks and a month to get use to.  After that it comes natural for them to do what you want them to do.

I will TnDep, I plan to do a short write up on them after a little while as they are a legitimate contender for somewhat higher end HOTAS setups.

The dual throttle is going to be especially interesting, I cant wait to have a second lever. Using it on the RPM (I pray we have analog for that) will be really slick! Gone is the day of fighting the + - keys getting the exact RPM I want. As someone who uses a lot of rudder I cant wait to start working my way into those, I feel they will take me to another level once I get used to them. I have also heard a few people say it will take two weeks or so to really get used to them. Hopefully I can get some flight time under my belt and try to sneak past a tough opponent in the bracket duels (akELFY). As it were my current joystick is so bad at times I have to unplug and plug the joystick portion in several times a minute!

Its been a while since I have splurged so I am really excited to start flying with them. Maybe the sound of me dying will drown out the wife ack!

Depends on the persons ability to adapt.  I was use to em proficiently in about 3-6 days due to a twisty being the most painful thing to try and use (My hand doesn't twist so well to the right).
Strip, If you don't mind a slight deviation from reality swapping the pedals (left will go right) seems to be more natural to some.

Least now I don't have to worry about you killing me in the Scenario, you won't be able to aim! :D

Not that my aim was ever any good to start with!

 :D

I think I will keep the rudder setup like real life though, I want to set them up in FSX. Perhaps to get some stick time flying like I would expect to away from the virtual world. I consider myself pretty adaptable but we shall see, twisty is all I have known for 2 years.

Strip.
I started using hotas & peds about a month ago & I've never been so frustrated. It's starting to feel more natural to me now but be prepared to not be able to hit anything for a while.
