Question -- Week Long Tank battle, anyone interested?
« on: February 25, 2010, 07:23:28 AM »
I'm curious if theres any interest in a Week long tank battle with objectives. it would only have 1 or 2 planes in it for killing GV's. Please let me know what you think.

Week Long?

I'm not sure if I can take a whole week off from work......

How will we sleep?

Do we get to reup if we die on day 1?

All kidding aside, what do you have in mind?  GIve us a little bit of your plan and I'd bet you would have a whole horde of gv's interested!   :salute

like T-34s (76mm & 85mm) + M3s with B25Hs + La5s vs. PzIVs/Tigers + SkdZf251s with Ju87s + 190A5s to start with; add planes when one side meets objectives and denies the opposition theirs?

COOL

Some additional thoughts:  Firefly could be earned be Axis ti represent the Panther if they do well enough; both sides could earn the M8 (BT5/7 & various Axis armored cars):  Toss in a Brewster for some props. the the Finns/Axis Minors.:  SBD for the VVS as a DB-3.  I'll stop now.   :joystick:

pretty close actually! all the M-series, t34, firefly VS panzers/tigers, skd, ostwind, wirblewind

for planes i was thinking p38 and 110 for GV suppression.

objectives would be base capture on a points system. bonus would be maybe an extra plane or just bragging rights, not sure which yet. unlimited lives, not a FSO or SEA type of thing

killing non-targets would take points away from the side that captures it

Yes, provided that there are no fighters, that the GV killers are the B-25H and IL-2, and that all the anti-aircraft vehicles are enabled.  You may also want to limit the number of bases that the planes can fly from, just to prevent everyone from running straight to them.

EDIT: I honestly don't see the logic in using the P-38 and Bf-110 for GV killers.  To kill GVs, both those planes are realistically going to have to be dive bombing, effectively giving the GVs no  chance to survive.  In addition, people will doubtlessly just begin dogfighting with them, and thus defeat the whole purpose of the GV-oriented setup, IMO.

Afk for a year or so.  The name of a gun turret in game.  Falanx, huh?
Apparently I'm in the 20th FG 'Loco Busters', or so the legend goes.

thats a very good suggestion. but you also need a way to protect bases under attack also. hangers would be hardened to make it more difficult to take them down. 10 tigers shooting at a hanger can take it down in no time flat, therefore we'd have to harden them some.

edit: we dont want to take away the air battle aspect of the war totally, just limit it. i dont have a problem with dogfights, and if theres enough people playing it could get pretty intense.

edit: we could trade them for smaller planes that can only carry smaller bombs instead of the 1000lb'ers.

the Fw190-a5 comes to mind. or even the brewster and the I16 with limited bombing capabilities

Well personally I quite like the idea of a purely B-25 furball  ;)

sorry B25 was never mentioned nor would it be considered, this is strictly a GV battle with limited air cover idea.

adding the IL2 would need to be on the order of an award for exceptional performance by the VVS side; has the ability to shift the equality too much. Kinda the same for the 38 subbing as a Pe2 IMHO.  Scaling-up the air war slowly keeps the focus more on the GV aspect I think.

Well, if the B25H is out, then the P-38G as a sub for the Pe2 could be appropriate.

great idea.  I'm in for the plane side of it as I have a hard time zooming in to see other gvs at long distances.  Everytime I zoom in and change gun elevation I lose sight of the enemy gv.

110's, stukas, 25's and make sure you leave cannons and bombs on.  I can see these GV fighter planes having a low altitude battle themselves.

That will be cool to see tons of gvs battling it out from the air.

Make sure there is no death limit that you can always join the fight or reup.

had no intentions of using IL-2 either except for maybe as a bonus plane.

actually those planes would not be used. nothing with cannons, except maybe as a bonus plane. no bombers either. only fighters that can carry a single bomb VS planes with multiple bombs.

the idea is to encourage GV's and not so much bombers, but not discourage aerial dogfights at the same time.

by using single bomb fighters, you can have the best of both worlds as far as im concerned! this is not the final word on this so keep the idea's coming, we're willing to try anything.

how many people would be game for this setup?? chime in please!

will the planes at least have a forward facing machine gun?
