The Case of The Disappearing Barn

Location: At the spawn from A239 to V2

Before the comments start, Yes I was camping the spawn and I will do it again.
Please see the image below. Pappy08 was inside of a barn. This is what I saw. Can anyone tell me why this happened? I have graphics turned all of the way up. My PC is a brand new Dell Studio XPS with a top of the line graphics card. I was in short visibility mode. When I switched from short to long range or medium the tank and trees all disappear. Myself and Pappy were talking about it and he swears that he was inside of a barn.
I went back and looked at the film and screen shots. No barn. I have had this happen before. Is this a graphics card problem?



I went back to trinity map offline and yes the barn was there as seen in the picture below.

But when I moved away from it it disappeared again.


Any ideas or input would be greatly appreciated.

the question I have is why does the amount of ammo change in the images?

Because the bottom two pictures were taken offline after this happened. I loaded the Trinity map offline.  I wanted to verify that the barn was actually there. And yes the barn does disappear as you can see from the bottom two pictures.

Wouldn't this be due to changing the ground range visibility?  note the text buffer showing he is changing the view distance. This is why sometimes you see a tank sitting out in the open and as you get closer, he is all of a sudden in trees or a building when you get closer. 

Similiar to the "invisible tree" issues where the distance setting comes into play.

If you set the detail view down... barns can disappear.   I have seen this many times.    Saw it in TT Island a week or so back.  Saw a tank just sitting there in the open.  1.2K out.   Shot with my M8 but couldnt hit it.   Increased Detail....he was in a barn....so I aimed through the hole in the building to kill him

If you shoot....the shell will explode like its hitting something.   Set your detail levels to full...and low an behold....a barn...or tree...or building...or etc.

This is how people see your through trees from 4K out and shoot at you right thru them.  You can't see them...the trees are too close to...they see you because you are off in the distance and the trees aren't visible to them.   If you set details down and get about 1K from some buildings....you can see right through parts of them.

He has ammo multipliers turned on.

Which it shouldn't be.  Clear adv for the low graphic setting person.  No matter what the object is or how far, it should be displayed.  If they have a low setting, then the barn should still be there but without the high detail, just a ugly looking box/barn,lol.

I agree Dogg...

     I always find it amusing that I am driving through trees so thick I can see the other side....but shells are sailing right through them and impacting within feet of me.....all while moving....so I know they can see me.  LOL.     There was one time I was in a enclosed barn in my M8.   I watched rounds come right through from the side...of the barn.   Each one getting closer...then bang.  Dead.  Right through the wall.

     The other bug thats fun to play with is the Loooonnggg distance shot.  You're sitting there and all of a sudden...clang.....you get hit.   But no round reports....no visible incoming round.  Clang....hit again....still cant see it.....clang.....your dead!   LOL.

     If you shoot from far enough away  5K+ the rounds dont report on the ground or in the air.   While you look all around.....the "sniper" just keeps pinging ya.     Not that I "snipe" from over 5K out....LOL.   Of course I do. ;-)

I too got a new replacement XPS 9000 under warranty last year as my old XPS 700 died & was having similar issues with graphics I have windows7 & the PC sent to me only had 4 gigs of ram.

So I bumped it up on ram to 12 gigs (overkill I know) & slapped a new GTX 285 card from BFG Tech & A 750 watt power supply no more problems.

Did you have your detail all the way down when you switched to ground view?    Lots of stuff disappears when u do that.  Never seen a barn disappear tho./
