It was designed by Yokosuka - Nath's absolutely correct

BTW - with just 1 forward firing 20mm it kinda falls short of Mossi's 4 cannons plus 4 MGs?

I was thinking more of the bomber role Lynx, but if you wish to fight air to air in a Mossie against just about anything else, be my guest   While there are several varients of the Mossie labeled "Fighter", I have a hard time believing it would be effective in that role. At least given its relative performance in other sims where its been modeled, and just by looking at its physical characteristics and performance specifications. Night Fighter maybe, but Day Fighter..... *shrugs*

True, that forward firepower would be great for ground attack missions though.

On the other hand, if your operating in a level bomber role, I would give up the forward firepower, for the rear firepower of the Frances (which the Mossie totally lacks). That kind of speed, plus a 20mm tail gun, equal a very difficult and dangerous buff attack.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see the Mossie. I was just pointing out that we can get a very similar bomber that fills the same role, and also fill the need for a Japanese bomber with the Frances.

Give us the mossie now!!!!

Or if not give us the Westland Whirlwind (not the hellicopter):

Powerplant: Two Rolls-Royce Peregrine I
Thrust: 2x 885 HP
Speed: 360 mph
Ceiling: 30,315 ft
Armament: 4x20mm cannons, 453 kg bombs

It entered service in 1940 and 116 examples were eventually built. Its main disadvatage was its 240 km operational range. The whirlwind was orinally the first aircraft to carry four 20mm cannons, but delays in the production of the RR Peregrine (for which it was specifically designed) and the use of the cannon on spits and hurricanes, limited its use to fighter-bomber. The Beaufighter and later the mosquito overshadowed the Whirlwind. Interesting plane, though.

Don't think it is modelled anywhere else.

Verm, Nath; There were no day-fighter Mosquitoes - the only one labelled as such, the F.II, was actually a night-fighter.

The closest thing to a day-fighter was the fighter-bomber FB.VI, the most numerous of all the Mosquito marques with 2248 built.

If the Mosquito was added you could easily have several useful planes in one.

FB.VI - 1942 fighter-bomber with 2000lb bombload, 8 rockets and 4x20mm/4x.303in.
B.IV - 1942 low-altitude bomber with 2000lb bombload. (241 built)
B.XVI - 1944 high-altitude bomber with 4000lb bombload. (1200 built) PS: It does 400mph at 15k iirc, not at sea level!!!

BUT - the P1Y1 would be nicer first since it's IJN and never seen before.

Btw; that "purple" Mosquito is a PR.XVI of the US 8th Air Force, 653rd Bomb Sqn(Light). The crimson tail indicates that it's mission is weather reconnaissance.

Another thing; there were 10 "civil" BOAC Mosquitoes(1 B.IV, 9 FB.VI) that were in use during the war, carrying urgent "passengers" and "cargo" over Europe.

I'll take a woody any day of the week.  Though I'd rather have a B-25H-5 or A-26!

What speed did the woody cruise at?

The stuff about the Mossie came from Bombers of World War II, which is actually a compilation of articles from Airplane magazine. That, and half-remembered stuff I read in other books at university libraries(like some Mosquitoes had nitrous oxide injection!  ).

There was a Mosquito with a 57mm gun, and also 75mm gun I believe.

There was a feature on the History Channel about the Mosquito.  It said that the late-war variants reached speeds of 420 mph.

The 57mm replaced the 20mm and the internal bombs, but the .303s were retained.

It only kept two of the .303in I think? Never heard of a 75mm gun in a Mosquito...

415mph? NF.XXX could do 424mph.
