First off we'll need your motherboard model so we can see what AMD socket you have.

Well that's an LGA 775 Socket motherboard, Intel.  But typically the most recommended 775 CPU is an E8400.  I don't keep up with Intel much so I'll leave it to someone else.

If one doesn't know which model CPU is in use, use HWINFO32:

http://www.hwinfo.com/  , or

CPU-Z :

to find out.

Here is the MSI CPU page for that board.

Need to find out what you have on it then go from there.

....

EDIT: Nevermind...Google corrected me this time, it's Intel T7700 (took it 5 tries to find that).  Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T7700 (4M Cache, 2.40 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)  I don't know much about Intel, but isn't the "T" line a mobile line?

If this is a laptop, you might as well forget about trying to upgrade the CPU.  There is more than a fair chance the manufacturer of the laptop has hardcoded the CPU support into the BIOS ROM.  The reason being is all about power management.

Your only hope is to contact the manufacturer and ask them about an upgrade.  If they say it cannot be done, then believe them and move along.

Actually not a bad processor. Think TD uses that in his builds, or something maybe a little newer.
