383 Stroker's New Home
« on: March 04, 2010, 07:11:31 PM »
Well its just about all done....Putting in the posies in this spring and shell be complete.

History: paid $700 for her 1988 GMC Suburban, blown engine swapped out front ends and rear ends. Installed a 1994 350 in her. Did all the body work and paint (she was a rust bucket).

I just had a 383 Stoker built. Installed it last weekend.  It runs like a champ...tons of torque.

New 31.5's and ball joints.....
Enjoy:

Ok... we've had this discussion before...Bigger Tires SK poorly in Snow country..Tall and thin. The only reason I went with theses was my budget was being tapped out..Otherwise Id be running a taller thinner tire but I needed new rims.  This is meant for function not how pretty it looks. I promise I will bounce this off some trees in the next few years, the area in which we hunt has many areas that most dont know about with tons of overgrowth.

Ty for the suggestions though, Mashherbrum knows also that bigger tires on this will have a tendency to break the frame around the steering box..

You could always try a 285/16.   33's should be ok, as long as you're not getting crazy on trails.   Regardless bro.   Awesome job.    :devil

If you put a 6" lift on a Suby and cannot fit 38's under it, you've failed.   Also, there is no need for a 6" on a Suby.   To fit 35's, Kam would only need 2" tops and then he'd open himself up to Steering Box separation potential.  33's are the max he could safely go and drive it anywhere, safely.   Wives and kids will not like the step ladder needed to enter and exit the vehicle.    There comes a point where "lifting" becomes excessive.    I won't even mention lift blocks.   Also not mentioned, IF he switches wheels, I pray he doesn't get wheel spacers.   I've seen what a TJ on 33's does when you lose a wheel at 70 on the freeway.   My buddy is lucky to be alive.   He had wheel spacers and they are dangerous, just like lift blocks.

Skyjacker lifts suck btw.   BDS, Rusty's Off Road, Clayton, Full Traction or Fabtech FTW.   Rubicon Express lifts are now cheaply manufactured.

Winches are a whole different ball game.   Most if stuck, would put themselves in harms way, through no fault of their own.  Other than being clueless on the safe use of it.   Some people still use the snatch straps with hooks on them.   Those hooks turn into deadly missiles when they snap (and they will).   Most don't realize you can take a 1" diameter stick and use it to join two snatch straps safely.   If you need to pull cable, you need to correct your driving ability.   You either failed to read the terrain correctly, or you're in a spot you never should have been in, in the first place.

Body lift kits are unnecessary 90% of the time.   You gain no benefit from them as if you do, you're dropping more cash on correcting drive line angles.   Suspension Lifts are better and safer (to a point other than excessive).

Betty had an S-10/Blazer IIRC, not a lifted Suby.

either way they are both chevy's and not a JEEP

you don't get a 6" lift kit because you need it, you get it because your truck will look way more bad a**!

to the point that you need a step stool to get into, i mean come on are you gonna put a uber motor in a suburban and only have wee wittle tires on it sitting factory height? 383 motors are not cheap so why stop there?

don't forget a detroit locker for the suburban as well, then your gonna need an on-board air system which means .....air ride suspension!!!!

I typed skyjacker as an example only, i prefer Ranch as they are based out of Michigan.

BDS are the best, they're out of Coldwater, Michigan.   If you break anything, they replace it, no questions asked.

Why would he keep stock?   Why not?  You cannot compare Montana to Michigan.   If I bought an old pickup (Ford guy, but I almost bought a Rare 65 GMC 3/4 Ton Crew Cab P/U from MN), I'd keep it stock or do a mild lift.   But nothing "extreme" or "out of the ordinary".   My guess, Kam and I are similar in we prefer "stock looks" over "played out useless modifications".

Detroit Lockers are not utilizing air.   ARB's do and they suck.   On Board air via the York is the way to go.

BTW, just because your trucks "looks bada**" doesn't mean you haven't a clue of safety and common sense.   I used to sit on the Board of Directors of the Great Lakes Four Wheel Drive Association, I now look at safety as the priority.

Kamori  you did a great job man, you'll love the 383 tons of torque for offroading, I'm tossing around the idea of a stageII Roush supercharger and cold air kit for my  04 F150 FX4 5.4 Triton Its a beast offroad now but im wanting little more HP and Torque, total kits about $3200 and says about 10 to 14 hours install time ( weekend project) my refund was like 13,350 so i might get it

yep i had 85 s10 blazer, but it was lifted 3" body and 4" sus. come on karaya you have to admit that he could put a 4" or 6" lift on that bad boy sittin on some 35s and put a paint job on her. i would have had a bigger lift in my blazer but my blazer was already top heavy because of the short wheel base. putting it up higher than it was would have made it worse.

btw, i have had no problems with skyjacker lifts, summit racing and jegs used to be my best friends back 6 years or so ago.

nice burbon kamori! my parents had one the same year, damn michigan winters ate that truck up. but it had a 454BB in it.

If you put 35's on any Late-70's to 91 Pickup, K5, etc you will end up ripping the steering box off of the frame.   You CAN, but the real question is and Kam I discussed this at length, you shouldn't.   Ask CAP, you don't want to lost your steering box, if you're driving.   Hit a pothole just right and you're in the hands of God.
