Payback's a @#$%&
« on: March 04, 2010, 08:12:26 PM »
Giants pitcher Barry Zito hit Prince Fielder in the back with his first pitch in an exhibition game in Spring Training this year, in apparent retribution for Fielder's over-the-top celebration of a walk-off home run in a game against the Giants last September.

All I gotta say is, the Giants shoulda used someone with more velocity, and they shoulda drilled him in his fat head. Fielder disrespected the uniform, disrespected his opponent, and disrespected the game. If anyone other than Selig had been sitting in the commissioner's office he'd have been fined for that shameless display.

From a true baseball fan, you did good, Barry.

I laughed when I saw it.

Hell, I'm still laughing over Sammy Sosa getting his helmet shattered by a fastball back in the day.

Oh horse crap...baseball shoulda died in 1994 when it was in the crapper. I watched the last of the pansies play that year and was glad I knew I would never watch another baseball game. As for disrespecting the game...yes he should have acted like he had been there before but for an idiot to drill someone 6 or 7 months after the fact THAT SOB should have been fined, suspended, tossed out of the game.

Too many boys with too much whiny attitudes and not enough playing/pitching for the money they are making.

I'm for self policing too, but really they'd have to do away with the designated hitter to really  let it happen.  You couldn't have a pitcher be able to throw at guys but not have to face being policed at the plate himself.

That said, I don't think anyone needs to be throwing at a batter's head either.  Just send a message, don't try to ruin a career.

Oh, I'm sure he WOULD have been hit sooner had the incident not occurred at the end of the last game those two teams played against each other last season.  :P Hard to retaliate earlier when you don't play against each other again.

That's the way the game used to be played: You hit my guy or your guy was a jerk like that, then one of your guys got hit. That was it. That's how it SHOULD be played. You didn't see guys charging the mound like they do now. Hell, some of those pitchers you'd be TERRIFIED to charge. A guy like Gibson would have decked a batter that came after him (one of the funniest things I ever saw was a game a couple years ago where the batter charged a pitcher who just HAPPENED to have been an ace wrestler in college. He just lifted that batter up and drove him right into the ground)....

madda,

Actually, I'm of the opinion that the DH is one of things that NEEDS to go away in order to restore the game to its glory days.

And a heater under the chin is about the best way to send a message as there is....

How about Nolan Ryan owning Robin Ventura..

I agree with you about the chin music, sort of.  UNDER the chin, sure.  Some guys get a little too close for comfort, and careers can be ended with one throw.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dickie_Thon .  A plunk in the back or ribs sends just as good a message if you ask me.  Not that anyone has really though  ;)

One of the funniest things I've seen was Guillermo Mota flat out running away from a charge into his dugout, on two different occasions from two different guys.  I still laugh about that.

I don't care for the DH at all, AL cheaterball is what I call it.

I'm more about hitting, I feel like pitchers are just barely ball players anymore anyway, and to say, "well they don't really hit too well, so lets just have someone else bat for them."  Well, that just removes them a step farther away from being real players to my mind.  Not that pitching doesn't take incredible skill, I sure appreciate that, I just want them to bat for themselves.

Baseball is boring, and aside from maybe golf, it is the closest thing to a sleeping pill that you can watch on TV.

Zito is someone who'll never win a World Series ring.   For the record, that Walk-Off Celebration was NOT over the top.   If you think so, then the whole Bench from last needs to be beaned.   Zito's nothing but a crybaby and was one in Oakland.

Prince Fielder "disrespected no one".   I guess Bobby Thompson's trot around the bases should have allowed Branca in 1952 to drill him.   Nope, but Branca should have drilled him for the Giants stealing signs from the Center Field scoreboard at the Polo Grounds.   Thompson & Willie Mays even said "I want the signs".    THAT is "disrespect of the game".   It's also why I refused to watch the "homage to Willie" a few years back at the All star Game, he's nothing more than a POS, as is his Godson.

But Prince?   No way in hell.

Any of those stupid celebrations are over the top. I get sick of watching them, even from my own team. I know people (myself included) who cheered when they traded one of their young stars who was always making stupid celebrations (I won't name names, but he has completely dropped off the radar since being traded, and I'm glad to see it). It ticks me off in any sport. Guess what, you overpaid crybaby, you just did your JOB. I'd love to see a cashier or bag boy do a little dance every time they fill a bag without tearing it. Or a cop every time he writes a ticket. It's immature and moronic. The only things in sports that tick me off more are when I see dreds sticking out from under a helmet and guys who refuse to wear the uniform properly (especially these ones now who pull the back of the pantleg so far down that the cuff is hooked on the heel spikes). To me, all that crap shows a total lack of respect for the sport, the team, and the fans.

Zito is another spoiled brat, but I still applaud it. I just wish he'd done it in a game that actually counted.

Yes, watching people do the hardest single thing to do in sports is boring... :aok
