Modern War Arena?
« on: March 06, 2010, 07:50:57 AM »
Just thought I would throw this out there for debate
I know how HTC is working on WWI but would like to see what people think about having a modern war arena
Personally I think this would be a good idea

Why would it be a great idea? That just means another plane set for the limited staff to work on when they could be working on a more complete plane set for WWI and WWII...where is the fun with heat seeking and laser guided munitions that can hit a target 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 miles away with less effort than it takes to kill a tank with a full bomb load out of a Lancaster?

I'm here for World War 2 era combat. For me that moment in history is fascinating and i believe the WW2 was the beginning of the end for the dogfighter.
The fight was in your face and personal. Pulling hard Gs in your P51 trying to get the 109 off your six, and looking him in the eye as he flys by guns blazing! :rock The idea of shooting a missile at a dot on my scope just doesn't get it for me. I'd rather dance with a airplane then a missile anyday  :aok :salute

To successfully simulate modern combat each one of us would have to spend about a year learning each airplane just to end up cruising around and pressing a button when you see a dot on the scope.

There are only three wars in which AH2 should consider.

WW1

WW2

Korea

Why? Because it represents : the beginning, the golden age and the end of the dogfight. One with lawnmowers another with Ferraris and one with Jets.

I think Korea should be added at a later date after WW1 to make Aces High the DEFINITIVE MMO flight sim on the market. After these arena's are added and tailored to perfection, AH2 can then focus on WW2 making it perfect.

And then finally after time passes Hitech and the gang can create their masterpiece. A fully immersive flight sim encompassing all three of these conflicts with all the aircraft of AH2 and next gen graphics etc etc etc to make AH2 PERFECT ( Similar to L4D-2s function, same game but perfected )

That is the dream I think and I have a feeling it will become a reality someday  :pray

Avanti,

Pannono has a great suggestion here. The Thirdwire sims are a blast. I took a break from AH about five years ago and flew Strike Fighters Project 1 and Wings Over Vietnam for a summer and fall. The on-line part of the game was limited because much like IL-2 somebody basically had to host a room to play in. However I had as much fun fighting the jets in the Thirdwire series as I've had flying WWII props in Air Warrior, Warbirds, or Aces High since 1994. In my experience, most of the fighting was done with guns. Because just like here the fights ended up on the deck where your missiles wouldn't get a good lock or went stupid once fired. So don't let the experts in here dampen any interest you may have in jet combat. The community was very friendly for the most part and was populated with a lot of talented skinners and modders when I played. Give the series a try. They now have aircraft covering from WWI to present day.

No. I'm more interested in AH's WW2 combat because it is pieces of living history in a fun setting. It inspires me to learn more about the different aspects of WW2 (and WW1 for that matter), hence the stash of books I am acquiring is getting bigger. :D

History is a cool subject, so long as certain events are not repeated.
