AWACS?  Like they used in World War Tw....  Wait a sec....

If you mean radar like a night fighter?  Two or three mile range, which is about half of visible icon range.

Is it really necessary?

Really lol. Between the big honking icons and the all seeing arena radar and the map warning
indicators just how arcadish would some of you want it to be in there anyway?

But the current methods are an old gripe. AWACS radar in flight was something I disliked
about in AW and also in AH whine it was a newborn.  I get an A+ for consistency! :)

I reckon if it had a practical use like spotting GV's from higher alts or something of the like. I would be all for it. Going GV busting in a Lancaster using "Oboe" would be fracking hilarious.

Radar is not just for night fighters. And not all the airborne radar in WWII had a extremely short range. Im not saying make it as powerful as the base dar but good enough to see maybe 12-15miles?

Radar is not just for night fighters.
What daytime aircraft had the kind of radar you're asking for?

And not all the airborne radar in WWII had a extremely short range.
Actually, as a rule of thumb...

Im not saying make it as powerful as the base dar but good enough to see maybe 12-15miles?
Base radar has a range of 15 miles.
