I hear new customer voices in the wildnerness... ;)
« on: May 16, 2000, 10:04:00 PM »
In my opinion, Tuesday evening, starting about 9:00 PM EST was a potentially defining moment for Aces High as a product.

There were 63 people on-line in the MA, while 22 were in the SEA under an impromptu (NO ICONS) HA European Plane Set scenario, that 'udie' organized that afternoon.

For those that still think there is little demand for a more challenging environment, what else can be said except calculate the percentages for yourself.

I had a great time and it appeared to me that most did as well.  This caused no drain on HTC resources whatsoever and detracted in no way from their current "cater to the middle ground" marketing plan.  If actually promoted outside of AH as a viable option to a singular MA, it could draw incremental revenue without too much difficulty.

Thanks to 'udie' and all who attended.  I knew the undercurrent was strong, but the proof was in the attendance, which even surprised me with less than 8 hours notice and no promotion.

'udie' defined the environment as follows:

Germany : Bishop
190
109 any variant
B26 (in place of the ju88)
panzer
M16 1/2 track (in place of what ever the Germans had that did the same job)
c47

Allies : Knight
p51
p38
spit any variant
B17
B26
panzer (in place of shermans LOL)
M16 1/2 track
C47

Regards,
Badger

Roger, was  fun last  two nights, but HTC has to change the code so  we  can have friendly icons with a certain range so that we may call out 6 to our wingmen!

I had alot of fun last night. Graphics have quite a bit to go for this to be more 'doable' for everyone. Larger monitors with much finer DPI and better (MUCH) better grpahics cards for starters. Even so I was able to fly in the icon less environment very well with a 19" monitor and a Viper V770 Ultra.. And I enjoyed the heck out of it. The pucker factor is enourmous! My one REAL kill would have been Badger himself had I not opened fire from so far away. Rulle of thumb I guess is wait till they fill the screen
The one draw back was after flying in a group of aircraft (enemy and friendly) was being forced to continue furballing with "unknowns" (turned out to be friendlies) because I could not tell till I got them at my 12 and under 800 in range who they were. So yes. Icons for friendlies!!!!  NONE for enemy.

Sounds interesting, is it going to run again? I would certainly like to check it out

I don't want to rain on your parade but 22 players is hardly an overwhelming turn-out and you must take into consideration that a percentage of those players were there perhaps only out of curiosity and may not return, perhaps a few more events like this before we go shouting from the rooftops

OTOH, by getting the arena set up in a way that encourages people to come, 22 becomes 44, etc.

It isn't perfect yet, but it has been a breath of fresh air. Let's not pee in the Wheaties just yet.

There was no intent to piss in your wheaties   I am certainly interested in participating if the arena is set up again

Let me tell you from experience, with only 10 or 11 opposition, you get a sore neck from checking your six constantly, I hope no more show up!  It's tough for me to get a kill the way it is!  (Just kidding about more showing up!)

It's been going on every nite this week!

BTW, icons are now officially off, so we don't have to rely on honesty.

Rip,

I talked w/ HT today and he told me that setting icons to 0 will have NO effect, so they will still be on tonight.  Honor system is still in effect.

HT and Pryo were nice enough to give me CM privs in the SEA though. So we can adjust the other settings like radar and such.

I'm about to post the preliminary ROE for the AH HA
