USC has a very good drumline, some of the Corps like the Bluedevils also have very fine tuned lines
I was the bass trombone for my highschool marching band and we always competed in the national competitions, usually ranking in the top 20 in the nation. Top 10 in the state of Texas.
Some background info I forgot to mention:
The show is called "rainforest"
Since the marching band was plaqued with bad luck during the marching season the drumline director decided to take the drumline season easy. They went from the usual 4 day a week practice to now only 2 days a week. Also the show was designed by the director himself with the help of the line to make it a fun season. So far the season has been phenominal...the kids absolutely love preforming this show and I think that is a very key factor in how well they are doing this season. With also taking it easy they decided to take out the national competition held in Dayton, Ohio. I think they are regreting that decision now

Also the show is well designed, you never for a moment forget its about the rainforest, and its very dynamic and never really a dull moment. All in all a very well preformed and designed show.
Alot of the lines preforming in this competition had a problem with tieing the theme and the actual show together...for example a show was called the "Basics of Art". The theme was supposed to be about red, blue, and green...triangles,circles, and squares...the basics of art. On paper it seems like a neat concept, but how do you actually make music or design a show around that? It ends up being a dull show that the kids really do not like preforming.
