The Cooper is the most ridiculous car on the road today.   Why would anyone want to drive such a silly looking monstrosity??

The vehicles looks like it came out of a Cracker Jack box, it is so toy like in appearance.   Besides, there are so many far superior autos that one can get for the same amount of money.  It is so small that it certainly would not be comfortable to drive on a long trip.

Really, what does it excel at?   Nothing that I can think of.   Can anyone come up with something?  Consumer Reports says that it is unexceptional for reliability too.   While it is not that bad, it certainly is not among the highly rated vehicles.   I certainly would not consider a Cooper to be a good investment.

Girls do seem to think that it is cute.  There are a couple of young movie starlets in Hollywood that drive them.  But for a man to drive a Cooper?   I don't understand how that could ever be possible.

In sharp contrast, many famous Americans drive my auto, including many of the hottest male actors in Hollywood like Leonardo DiCaprio, Orlando Bloom, and Owen Wilson.

Reliability?   Are you serious?    Skuzzy's car doesn't have accelerator or brake pedal issues.    The Prius has been anything but a "trouble free car".

A Prius really, a Prius.  :huh One of the ugliest cars ever made, and a real performer too.

If Leo, Orlando, and Owen are your ideal of manliness then you might want to check your package, you most likely are missing something. :headscratch:

I would love to have a Cooper painted like the Union Jack :rock  They've got a style that sets them apart from the rest of the mess that's out there.
Are parts expensive for them and hard to get? There's not a dealership within 2 hours drive of here  :frown:

I'm sure the parts are very accessible.   Either by dealer or on the internet at various parts sites.

BMW/Mini is in the process of expanding dealership coverage.  If you are two hours from a dealership, they will cover any expense if you car needs to be towed to the dealer for warranty repair.

Something I did not tick on.  Mini has a pretty comprehensive warranty package.  They cover everything, including oil changes, during the warranty period.  I opted for the extended warranty as the cost of it will be more than offset by the cost of the brake job the car will need next time it goes in.  Yes, it will be covered under warranty as well.

Heck, I did forget to mention.  I have had troubles with wearing out the wiper blades.  On my second set, but they are also covered in the warranty.

Another thing about the Mini is you get exactly what you want in the car.  It is quite normal for Mini owners to special order thier car.  There is no charge for this.  You just have to be able to wait the 6 to 8 weeks for the car.

They actually use vinyl for the decor packages so you can change them around when you want, without having to have a paint job done.

Coopers are nice i looked at one when they first came out, but i live in snow and icy road country, 4X4 is almost a given during winters here, it would make a nice second car thou

Actually, with decent snow tires, the Cooper is a pretty competent vehicle in snow and ice. mostly due to its light weight, combined with the traction and stability control systems.

It also heats up very quickly.  When it was 20F around here recently, the car would warm up in less than 100 yards and get comfy inside really fast.  Warms up faster than any car I have ever owned.

Heck, if it gets stuck, just get out, pick it up and move it.  :)

Oh wait, I did miss commenting on the "investment" aspect.  When gas was over $5/gallon, I could have sold my car for more than I paid for it.

Right now, its still holding 72% of its original cost, after 3 years.  A 3 year old Prius is retaining about 57% of its value.

Maybe I am missing something.  Do guys just not care for a good handling sporty ride anymore?  Is that what is defining a man today?  When was the last time anyone saw a Prius on an auto-cross course chewing up Corvettes and Porsches?

Last year at one of the Cobra meets, a road course was setup and the Cobra guys begged me not to enter the Cooper.  On a road course with no straights, the Cooper would have embarassed them.  I doubt they would have been concerned with a Prius.  Matter of fact, there was not a Prius there.  I guess "men" do not race anymore.

Skuzzy....

Smacketh by day, banneth by night!

(For the record I agree the Cooper is rather unique with a good mix of traits, I wouldn't mind owning one.)

I am not a real man though, only go 0 to 170 in 8 seconds, the Prius would still have beat me by a few lengths!

 :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl

I hope your joking, let's compare here.

Style:                        Cooper wins x1000
Handling/acceleration:   Cooper wins x1000
Efficiency:                   Tie, Prius gets better MPG in the city when it's running electric,  Cooper probably gets better @75mph on highway.
Environmentally friendly:  Cooper wins x2, nearly the same MPG without all the toxic NIMH batteries and miles of copper wiring.

Overall Cooper wins x4000

I'm pretty sure TwinEng is pulling our chain though. :D

Cooper also wins on price.

Base price for a Cooper is $18,800 U.S. while the Prius base is $21,000 U.S.

At $18,800 the Cooper beats the Prius hands down, it looks like a fun little car, great styling, great mileage and with BMW technology and engineering you cant go wrong.

Skuzzy that what i mean by styling, anyone that remembers the ones from long ago, find these appealing.

brings back a funny memory back in high school, our band teacher had one and the band was outside practicing for the up coming Parade, we spotted his Mini-Cooper and we put each wheel up on milkcrates we borrowed from the School Kitchen,  lol  the look on his face was priceless, lucky for us he had a great sense of humor
