If your Ranger Tabbed LT asks you to run with him....DONT GO he will break you off then hand it back.....then break you off again.

60-120s for 5 miles at his pace has me hurting like a Marine after a fight with an Infantrymen :D

Time to go eat breakfast and throw it back up :rock

I may be wrong here, and I'm not in the military, and I won't be for another 6 years hopefully, (high school, college with ROTC, then Marines) but I don't think the Rangers dropped into Fallujah, I'm pretty sure that was a Marine battle. I know that they dropped into Kandahar.

This has me wondering what the major differences are between Rangers and Green Berets. I'm thinking that the Green Berets are the elite forces from the Rangers. Is this correct?

Did anyone else see the recent article regarding the changes coming forth in the US Army's basic and advanced training?  Instead of the numerous long runs and marches, the army will be loading down the troops and having them do shorter runs.  This is to help condition the body for the heavy loads of body armor/combat gear, and the shorter sprints that are more common in urban environments.  I will have to find the article, it was an interesting read.

Army Times, yea I read it....honestly with the Army every line unit is different so its almost better they dont learn too much in Basic....just come to the line in good shape and a good shot

Rangers are a highly funded, more disciplined Infantry unit...they are the the so called BEST of the Infantry. SF does alot of this counter insurgency training and gorilla tactics, making them probably our best weapon in the Wars going on. Alot of Rangers I met are good at being a soldier, but when it came to being smart about how to treat people, they werent at the top of that list.

Honestly they are both a different type of Special Operations :salute

For a quick and dirty cut/paste answer (that is mostly accurate)

"Green Berets" are Non-commisioned officers that have passed the Special Forces Assessment and Selection program and reclassified into an 18-series MOS upon completion of the Special Forces Qualification Course. they are generally assigned to one of the 5 active duty groups upon completion of training. There are also currently 2 Special Forces Groups in the National Guard force structure.

"Army Rangers" are members of the army assigned to the 75th Ranger Regiment either in headquarters or in one of the three Ranger BNs. Members of this unit go through a Ranger Indoctrination Program before being assigned, and if found lacking motivation or ability, they are released back to the needs of the army. Not all members of the unit are "Ranger qualified"--meaning that they have not successfully completed Ranger School...but this is generally understood to be a requirement for promotion to Sergeant in the Regiment.

Many "Green Berets" are "Ranger Qualified" or "Ranger tabbed" but the focus and mission profile of Special Forces Groups and the 75th Ranger Regiment differ in rather extreme ways.

So if i'm reading this correctly, one doesn't have to got through Ranger school before being selected to the Green Berets?
