So if i'm reading this correctly, one doesn't have to got through Ranger school before being selected to the Green Berets?

By definition, you are correct, but it helps.  So does airborne school.

But you had better be one bad muthaf%#&@r.

How many of those jog 120 sprint 60 reps does one do?

My Father was a combat engineer Btry B 11th AAA (AW)(SP) Bn  8 yrs stationed overseas, he told me alot of amazing stories, one thing he always laughed about, is when he went one way they others would always be going the opposite direction, before he passed he left me with his complete footlocker, after his passing i opened it, it was rather emotional for me, but after that day i was never so more proud of my Father and his service to our country, my sons highschool flight teacher a retired commander from the airforce has written for all my Fathers records and citations and medals, included will be the American Flag in a wooden case along with his medals, i was very touched that this commander made sure my father is recognized for his service.  you got to respect our servicemen and women, all branches  :salute god bless you all

In the Army...however many it takes to complete the full distance...in miles.

We didn't do such things in the Corps...except of our own accord...it was generally full combat gear and and run at a pace where you could run as long as you had to without being dead when you stopped...or wait for the 1stSgt to lead the run in t-shirt and shorts then jog/walk 3 miles...before breakfast. If you weren't properly hydrated (i.e. got drunk the night before) and it was full combat gear, just make sure you were in the back of the pack so you could blow chunks without getting it on anyone else.

Ah, gotcha. Thanks for that.

Have been doing run 200, jog 200, run 400, jog 200, run 600, jog 2 mins for a bit now. Trying to do a Masters 400 or 800 this season.

Not sure I get to 5 miles tho.

Always remember this: An officer is only as good as his NCO's. Officers do the planning but the NCO's make sure it is executed. That's my advice.
