Fw-190 A/F8 is what we've got, minus extra ord
« on: October 06, 2000, 08:11:00 AM »
Found this while thinking about the odd performance similarity of the A5 and A8:

Quote
The Fw 190F-8 was powered by a BMW 801 D-2 engine variant adapted for C3 (96 octane) fuel. An additional injector in
the left supercharger inlet for emergency short term (10-15 min) engine power increase during flight under 1000 m altitude
was standard equipment.

Got that from Joe Baugher's Fw-190 page. Seems we have an A8, but with the limited boost system of an F8. Seems Elmer Fudd has something to say about this.

That is not the same boost system the AH Fw 190A-8 has...

I have a copy of the aircraft handbook for the A-8 and it used a boost override system.  The handbook says that some of them had the supplemental petrol injection system in lieu of boost override, and that performance with the boost override was equal to performance with supplemental petrol.

AH A-8 performance in WEP conforms with the speed and climb charts provided in the handbook for boost override performance.

Charts are here:  http://www.raf303.org/funked/a-8manual/

Weren't 190G8s fitted with MW50?

Forget F8, AND MODEL A G8!!!!

and whine, allied opportunists!! WHINEEEEEEEEEEE

now seriously, if we are getting a ground pounder I want the latewar G version ,not the F. Gs were better for ground attack, had MW50, fought in 1944-45...and had wing bombs too!

Why not D-12? It was a Dora designed specifically as a JABO bird, and it could do 453mph!
