38...:(
« on: March 27, 2001, 01:45:00 PM »
Well... I've messed with the 38 on numerous occasions in this SIM... and its hurts me. The darn spin/stall cant be correct. The plane acts like a hog in mud. I've heard numerous things about bugs, porks, etc but is it going to be addressed or is this the "end" model? I'm asking this because I miss flying my 38 but it just seems to be a death trap here...

Of course, I only see what he posts here and what he does in the MA.  I know virtually nothing about the man.  I think its important for people to realize that we don't really know squat about each other.... definately not enough to use words like "hate".

Batdog,

Just a point of friendly advice. If you think the modeling is porked, provide charts or some form of quantifiable data that proves or supports your point. That type of constructive criticism DOES get results here. Simply stating there is a problem with no supporting data is considered a whine.

I am not saying you are wrong. The 38 isn't my ride and I have no real position on how it's modeled here. I just know you won't get any real consideration about it until you can back your claim.

Cheers,

Mav

Kudos to Maverick for not using the often seen, rude, "prove it you jerk", replies.

against airplanes up to mid 1944 the p38 is a very good aircraft. its stall characteristics are of course incorrect, but just dont stall and its not a problem.

I believe F4UDOA gave some info that showed the flaps in AH arent doing much. P-38 depends on its flaps.

IMO, its also way too fragile to gunfire, an armorless zeke eats more lead than a 38.

Okies... twin engines..counter rotating ='s little torgue thus little spin/stall? Plane also has a wide wing... doesnt this help as well. Those flaps supposdly provided mucho lift... I have heard read that stall speeds of 85ias... in tests. Combat maybe low 100's?
I'm no expert for sure, but it seems that several areas of this plane are perhaps abit off? If nothing else I'm trying to throw my voice in with the other 38 drivers who all seem to agree that it needs some improvement.

P.S. thanks for the advice mav. I had an email from a 38 pilot once. If I can find damn site again and his email I'll ask HIM some questions. He mentioned to me that they flew practice missions vrs f4u's..and ate them. He mentioned some other stuff as well... but I was just getting into sims and was abit...errr lost. I was a RR AW3'r..heh
