the tail
« on: March 22, 2010, 06:56:07 PM »
I'm not sure if this is a bug or whether this can actually be possible...I have had a few instances of shooting of one side of a planes tail and it seeming to have no effect. perhaps it effects the elevator but didn't seem to....I have noticed this with FM2,F6F,Niki and spit 16 so far...today I saved a film and could send it in but thought I'd ask if it is a possibility for a plane to continue like this...In the past when if one piece of tail comes off it is death as the whole tail section usually was destroyed.....So is this new or a bug?

From the Update Page....

Horizontal stabilizers can now be destroyed independently of each other.

So what sort of effect would this have on a plane...I can't say I noticed a huge change in performance...I was in a zero and still had to push it to get inside the turn of the nik and spit today... Just wondering

The planes fly much more squirly when half the horiz stabilizer is missing.

so does that mean If they were stick stirrers I wouldn't notice a change   :lol :lol :lol

I have trouble (alot) fighting them so I decided to fly them at times to see where I can exploit them when in my uber ride (It has definitely helped.)and it still has a red dot  :D...That stupid brewster thing is next on my list.

I should also mention that, Grizz your input on where I could make a change to my fighting stlye has helped also.

Ok so ultimately I will not pull off the con thinking hes is going down now when he has half his tail missing....point noted...Cheers guys

I was flying a pony a few days ago and had my left stabilizer get shot off. Then for some reason I decided to stay in the fight, in the next 5minutes I entered a spin twice. (yes, I made it home)

This happened to me last night. I shot the right horizontal stabilizer off of an F6F. It continued to turn with what looked like no loss of elevator authority. It then proceeded to out turn and shoot down my 38. Being out turned is nothing new, but not by a plane with a single elevator. Both the F6F pilot and I agreed that something might be up.

I'm guessing my bullets hit the horizontal stab but missed the elevator. The game registered the stab loss but the elevator remained, despite the animation showing it had been lost. Either something like that or the planes turn much better with a single elevator since the update.

Had the same experience with a Spitfire Mk XVI.  Shot off the left horizontal stabilizer but it didn't seem to effect it's maneuverability at all.
