Headquarters/Cities
« on: March 22, 2010, 02:54:01 PM »
A squadmate of mine and I noticed yesterday that the Cities... Well, the cities are pretty big.   EEEK!

We bailed from our planes and spent a few minutes walking through the city...
The detail on the buildings is pretty good for something nobody ever get's to see.

So I was thinking we should incorporate a way to get these cities some good combat action.  Ground vehicles would have a hell of a time fighting in it, bombers would enjoy bombing it.
I think it would be nice to incorporate the cities into the game a little bit more.  Just a thought.

Oh, and if you haven't had time to actually check out the cities, I recommend it.

I'm sure you mean bombing but we actually made a vehicle trip to an enemy strat a few months ago.  Took M4s and drove for about 45 minutes to reach it (eh, we're patient bomber pilots).  AAA towers were vicious, we had to move slow and carefully.  Convoys were sneaking and took many of us out.  I tried to make a run to the center industrial area but didn't get close before an ack tower took me out.  It was fun, confusing because you'd run into the same modeled buildings but still fun.

I think we should use these cities in some snapshots and special events.

We could also just arrange some missions to attack/defend cities with different countries at the same time.

A Stalingrad-type scenario would be neat.

No offense Mash but, are you sure about that? We don't have infantry, the Soviets wouldn't have tanks and the Germans would have air superiority...for anyone playing axis it would be real neat.

Maybe a battle over Berlin or Paris would work better with what is available?

Do with what we can.   Planes and GV's.   I'm not asking for a "complete re-enactment" for chrissakes, just something that is different.   IDGAF, what city is attached to it.

BTW, the Soviets DID have tanks at Stalingrad.

Umm... Wasn't there a factory in Stalingrad that actually was producing T34s during the battle?

I've been here the whole time and I haven't seen the city yet.

It seems to me that the new format took the cities and strats pretty much totally out of play.  There used to always be people hitting them.  Now they are so far in the backfield and, according to what I've heard so well defended, who want's to waste the time trying?

Oh well, one less thing to do in AH.  One less reason to play.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

Yep, I can expect a 2 hour flight if I want to make it to strat and back by myself.  Going up as a group leads to huge resistance, especially if there are some 163 bases close.  It can be fun if it starts a good fight, but even hurting the target shows hardly any impact on game play.  91st dropped troops down to 13% Monday night, less than half an hour later it was resupplied up to 100%.  I like the idea, but it's gotta be worth something.
