Local AR Hero Navy SEAL Laid to Rest Tomorow
« on: March 23, 2010, 05:24:07 PM »
I saw the obit in the local paper a few days ago.  Navy SEAL, years of experience and highly decorated for past service died while in Afghanistan.  I was at the doctors office and the staff was all abuzz.  There were hundreds and hundreds of cars lining the road where the funeral home was.  They were saying that the parking lot had overflowed and people were parking anywhere they could.  Some people coming to pay their respects today had to park and walk over a mile.  There were motorcycles, military vehicles, and cars of all kinds.  It was truly something to see.

Brown was his name.  Hot Springs, AR area man.  Just walked by the TV and the story was on.  They were saying friends and fellow service people had come from all over--Virginia, San Diego, and many many local friends and family.

:salute Mr Brown.  Thoughts and prayers to your friends and family.

:salute To all of our servicemen and women.

You are all heroes to me.

Fallen hero returns home
By: Betsy Simon - The Sentinel-Record
U.S. Navy SEAL Adam Brown received a welcome home befitting a fallen hero Tuesday, as the plane bearing his casket touched down at Hot Springs Memorial Field. Brown, 36, a Lake Hamilton High School graduate who joined the U.S. Navy in 1998 and was attached to a SEAL team in Virginia Beach, Va., died last week from injuries he sustained while serving as a Chief Special Warfare Operator in combat operations in Afghanistan. A dignified transfer ceremony followed on the airport’s ramp from the aircraft to the hearse. Brown’s funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Hot Springs Baptist Church with burial in Cunningham Cemetery Hot Springs.

Kinda cool how those guys all come together from all over if they can like that. One of my dad's best friends just passed away and was a Green Beret in Viet Nam. Dozens of people from all over the world came to that funeral and several of these guys he had only spoken to by phone or actual letter in the years since returning from over there.

Likewise in Arkansas, flags flown at half staff until sunset yesterday.

It was odd in a way.  I live up on Music Mountain overlooking Hot Springs Baptist Church and could observe the sight.  While there are some others in the area it is the only "mega-church" in the area, and seats about 1,000 with standing area for far more.  It was an amazing sight.  Two motorcoaches packed with service men and women who came to pay their respects as well as a parking lot, filled to overflowing and people parking all over the place in every direction.  I was listening to the local sheriff's frequency on the scanner and they had to set aside one of the tactical channels to handle all the messages.  There were at least five squads for leading the procession to the cemetary in newrby Royal, AR, as well as county highway department vehicles to help temporarily block roads so the procession could arrive in one group...almost 2 miles long.

After the burial, many of the mourners returned to the church for an extremely large reception for the family.

While all of those who serve are heroes to me, it was appropriate that so many came from so far to honor and remember Mr Brown.

For all of you serving, thank you, and know you are in my thoughts and prayers.
