A Noob's question...
« on: March 24, 2010, 03:34:12 PM »
hey there. I just dled FAH, and i can't seem to get anything moving.

I tried pushing =, shift and = at the same time, both shift buttons together and seperatley, just nothing seems to work. I've even tried switching the key to somthing else. I don't hear the engine rev up at all, nothing moves on the screen.

I'm just at a loss at what to do.

Well first, have you been here yet? http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/

If not, you should go there as soon as you can, and read as much as you can.

Second, (forgive me for stating the obvious but you didn't clarify it too well for me) make sure your engine is on. E toggles the engine on or off.

It's a habit of mine to start any new game off by reading through the entire list of controls in the options menu (or wherever provided), just to see what I am dealing with at first.

Hope this bit of info helps you out. :salute

Another thing to throw in - if you don't have a joystick, you will definitely want one. This is a fun game, but you simply won't get the experience without a joystick. Flying with a mouse is possible but not as much fun! Even a cheap joystick such as a Saitek ST290 Pro would suit you. 20 bucks at a local walmart.

The first thing anybody should EVER do (ever!!!) upon getting a new game is look up the key mapping! This tells you EVERYTHING you need to know about getting started. You can do this in-game by looking up the settings for controllers, and going to "keyboard mapping" or look it up in the help section of the main webpage menu.

It will tell you everything from engine start, to throttle, to RPMs, to WEP, to gear, flaps, guns, bombs, rockets, and oh, so much more.

See if that doesn't answer your questions.

Welcome to the game!  Krusty has the right of it. Look at the key mapping, get your joystick gear mapped(it's really easy!)

Mar's link is a good one, good info at the Trainers sight.
For new players specifically a printable list of most commands, that is if you use a standard US keyboard layout: http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/quickref/quickref.pdf .

right. i did go to that trainer section and finally got into the air, but there's some things that i'm not too sure of.

1. I'm guessing that it's just that the map is huge, that's why it takes so long to fly from one side to the other.

2. Whenever i'm flying, i hear a loud buzzing when i try to to some slighty emtreem maneuver, such as: climbing, diving, turning. It is very annoying, and even more annoying that i can't figure out what it is.

You are probably hearing the stall buzzer....make sure you have some speed (usually above 200) before pulling any hard turns etc.

When you first start up the game for a play session, you will usually be located at an airbase that is "behind the lines"...  You can look for the action on the map, you'll see a red bar at the top of map grid sectors that have enemy aircraft in the sky...

You may then type / to open the chat box...  Then type .move [Insert Friendly Base Number Here] to move to a friendly base of your choosing without having to fly all the way across the map.

Probably not. The planes are based on close to full realism and are a long way from arcade mode. You are probably just hearing the stall buzzer. Climb a bit and take some time to get some level speed then fly the plane around. Schedule some time with a trainer, they are awesome to work with. You'll make some friends... ride along with them.

Heck, I'll be on later tonight.. say 9:00 MST. You can join my plane. You can ask me all the questions you want right over vox while we fly.   I'll show you the joys of horde busting.  :aok

This was another thing that i was thinking of. Maybe i'm just too used to being able to snap-roll and divebomb something without having to worry about speed all that much. Not to mention the overlay that arcade versions have that let you know what your speed is. Kinda hard to read the gauges.

Sure i'd love to get some training in with you if you're offering. Although i'm not quite sure if this game support in-game voice.
