Large Screen?
« on: March 25, 2010, 05:51:47 PM »
I presently have 22" Acer looking to go to a big screen perhaps 32" TV monitor I need some suggestions on importance of contrast ratio over screen refresh rates with a 1920 x 1020 resolution, best options you some of you guys may know about. What I'm looking for is clarity of picture my eyes aren't 20 years old anymore and I figured this would help me see distance and definition much better than I can now.

Only thing I'd point out is if you can afford to go bigger, get up to plasma size.

If you can't then look for a very good 30-32" with low responce time, 120hz vs 60 etc.

I wouldn't use a plasma for a computer monitor. They're still prone to image burning in the screen plus they flicker. I get a headache from watching a plasma screen just as I did when old tube monitors were around.

The new led lcd TV's that run 240Hz refresh rate are really nice...but you won't get that performance hooked up to your computer...same with the 120Hz...using a mid range video card and setting the resolution on the television for computer use, 60Hz refresh...you could probably get up to 70Hz with a high end video card.

I agree with Ripley...you do not want to use a plasma for a computer hookup unless it's going play movies using a dvi/hdmi connection.

Nice big view though...you're gonna want it more than 3 feet from your face so you can focus on everything you need to see.

Have you considered an actual computer monitor say 26 to 30 inch?

I just bought a 120hz monitor and can say that it is great. Everything is so smooth .... It's like playing on a CRT, It really makes everything seem so fluid  .  My frames are usually pegged @ 120 I did see it drop into the 90's a few times through out the night last night.  I run 1024 textures  ...1680X1050 .
