If it were me, I wouldn't be sinking a single PENNY into trying to upgrade that system.  The parts that would be required to upgrade it... well you'd basically need to build a new computer to even upgrade it.

Yes, you could put in a better video card, but your Power supply won't handle it so you'd need to upgrade that too... but it's probably a proprietary one... so you'll need to fork out big $$$ to buy the right size... or a new case.  Then, you'll find that you'll be processor limited so you'll need to upgrade that.. but your motherboard won't support anything better...  just not even worth it.

Do this... price out the following:

-Computer Case (don't need anything fancy)
-Power supply... I'd go 600-650w MINIMUM.... but 750w would be good without going crazy
-Motherboard/CPU... with the Intel I series, AMD prices have dropped.  You can get a nice, fast AMD reasonably cheap these days.. no need for anything fancy for the motherboard... I wouldn't bother getting an SLI compatible one or anything.. I think I paid $70 for mine which supports C2D, C2Q (socket 775) intel processors and DDR3 ram.
-Video Card... Looks like ATI is the best bang for the buck right now.  Make sure you compare the Power supply's specs with the video card's specs before purchasing
-RAM... I'd definitely go DDR3... but regardless make sure you get the correct type for your motherboard.  I'd recommend at least 4 gigs.

You should be able to reuse your drives (CD/DVD, Floppy, Hard Drive) and maybe even the case fans, but those are cheap insurance.  I doubt you're going to be able to use the operating system from your Dell with the new system, so make sure you budget that as well.  I wouldn't waste money on 7 Ultimate though... Home premium has everything you need.  Also you'll be fine with the 64bit version.

Can it be done for under $500?  Yes...if you skimp... ALOT... BUT if you can manage to dig up another $200 you can get much, much better...

I have to largely agree with Tigger.  Any upgrade's probably not worthwhile.

I would disagree on some of the parts though.  In general you can skimp by for $500 re-using parts (hard drives, optical drives and your existing Windows licence as long as you have the Windows instal disc) for around $500 but that machine will also have a limited useful lifespan.  Without re-using parts you're looking at more like $750-1000.  If you want a machine that will last a few years then plan on spending $1200-1500.

Well, I managed to get both monitors working on my current setup, but I see that I'm struggling keeping my frames above 50fps with my 23" monitor. Rig is struggling, but I am not surprised.

I tend to agree with all of you that upgrading may not be the wisest thing at this point. It works for now, so spend the money and put a new comp together. So, after looking at all your posts, here is what I have come up with:

Processor:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103687

mobo:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128411

Ram:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231134

video card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150462

PSU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341018

Case:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811133094

Ill just reuse my optical drive(don't really use it anyway) and hard drive. I think I can do that right? So that puts me at $528 shipped, not including Windows 7 Home Premium. My wife's a student so I'll see what her discount is, should have that within the hour.

Thanks to Spikes for the suggestions...

Same card, just by Sapphire? No lifetime warranty, if that means anything.

XFX....they make cheap PCB's on their 5770 series. You can go for the lifetime if you want! Decisions decisions. :)

Ill pick one of these (^)video cards...so how does this look? $538 to the door...without Windows. Tigger mentioned 64-bit Windows 7? If I go 64-bit, don't think my current version of FSX will work? It's 32-bit...

I use xfx and have no problems, and if I did I know I have a liftime warranty, in fact xfx comes with a dual lifetime warranty which is a good resale point for a future upgrade IMO.
Saphire I think is a 2 year warranty and after 26 months if the card goes bad? Paperwieght?

I have read there is new drivers out for the 5770. 10.3 I think now. If the card comes with the old drivers it seems some people have problems with them.Just a suggestion is to get the new drivers and install them and not mess with the old drivers if they come with the card.

I'd still get a seperate sound card and disable the onboard sound.

You won't ever use 1333 RAM unless you're overclocking in a liquid cooled system.  If it saves money I'd step back to 1066 max.

You can also find a cheaper motherboard that's just as good.  You won't need the onboard video.  Gigabyte probably has something in the $60-70 range without video.

I also prefer a metal case.  There's plenty of them out there in that price range.

If you're going with 2 Gb of RAM then a 32 bit OS will be fine but if (and I would suggest you do) expand to 4 Gb then you'll want to run 64 bits.
