Perk Vehicles?
« on: October 12, 2000, 11:16:00 AM »
Vosper, a -323 member, brought up a good point, how about some perk vehicles for those of  us that enjoy tanking once in awhile?

King tiger, or a Panther? Whatever, just give us Perk Vehicles!

I'd like a a little more variety in the vehicles before we make a perk uber

Besides, the Ostwind would make a better perk choice anyway...only thing I can think of to top it is a M-19...tracked carriage with double 40mm Bofors. A manable 88mm AAA gun would be nice too, with shell choice

Panther G please.  As I stated before, no point in going almost-uber.  About the Tiger I, why would anyone want to drive it?  It burned even more gas than its successor, the King Tiger.  The King Tiger, on the oter hand, still burned fuel like crazy and was not very mobile.

Well, the Tiger I just looks cool, all blocky and powerful.

Has anyone actually run out of gas in a tank in AH?   I typically take 25 percent, and never see the gauge move.  Just curious.

Any but the Panther besides the first block D's are, well, uber.

King Tigers would be alot more balanced compaired to the Panther's abilities.

Go thread searching for the King Tiger/ Panther threads and you'll see what I mean

But we are talking about a perk tank here.  In a game without reliability issues a Panther D is identical to an early Panther G.
You dont want an arena full of Panthers. But you want them. The Tiger I would probably be a non perk tank if the Americans get an Easy 8 Sherman.
I would say that the Ostwind has been more trouble then the Panther would ever be.

Panther D had a 525 HP engine vs the Panther A and G 715 HP engines...made a pretty big difference

As I was saying, the ultimate perk tank for the US would be an M-19 AAA platform. Dual 40mm Bofors that fired pom-pom style. You think the Ostwind is bad, how bout a flak tank with alot more speed, bigger guns an more of them!

I am betting on any of the M4A3 Shermans being the best on dealing with aircraft, other then the Pz VI Ausf B, they have the thickest roof armor around and the .50 cal AAMG.

Doubt the MG42 AAMG will make much difference

These are my suggested vehicles for AH:

Panther Ausf A,D? for early RPS

Panther Ausf G for late RPS (perk)

Tiger I for early RPS

Tiger II late for RPS (perk)

StuG IV

T-34/76

T-34/85 (perk?)

Some Russian armored guns...

M4A3 Sherman

M26 Pershing (perk)

M36 Hellcat?

I'd suggest perking every tank which cannon has long effective range
That is just because we don't have *any* cover in AH for the tanks to hide.
Germans sure would love this 'poland' terrain of AH
..while yanks would simply *hate* it.

One of the reasons why yanks did so good with those zippo tanks in normandy, is the blocky terrain with bocages (spelling?)
In AH terrain normandy would be clear victory for Germans, even for PZ-IVh.

Though, kill power of those cannons shooting from long ranges should be cut off.
I really *believe* that one hit kills happens constantly from 4k distance with 75L48...
There isn't many ricochets in AH, most of those that I've seen, has happend from close ranges. (lol, like 200 yards, but not from +3k)

Perking really shouldn't look into the power of a tank though, just for the numbers.
Where PZ-IV and StuG III would be matching with M4 shermans on regular basis, other tanks like King Tiger should be seen rare times than Panther.

HTC should model T-34c or b next and M4 or M4a1 sherman... that would make up some nice fights.
Next interesting german tank would be StuG IIIG or StuG IV, though, utterly tough to use with one driver/commander/gunner.. (no turret)

I believe Pyro said that perks would be based on points. In that case, we could have varying points for each perk tank.  For example (just pure guess for numbers) Tiger II (1500 points), Panther G (1100 points), M26 Pershing (1100 points), and so on.
