Aces High!!! damnit...

I see lots of complaining about supposedly "uber" Aircraft.  I see complaining about "uber" vehicles...
Now i see debates over Battleships..

I think most of you will agree that there are some issues with the aircraft (FM or otherwise) in Aces.  Do we want the HT team spending tons of valuable time on Ships so u can bombard that base close to shore?

Personally, If ships are modelled I hope they are only modelled with AA capabilities much like bases now.  Perhaps have a couple of mannable AA turrets to be used against the pesky PT boats (if they appear)

I'd rather see HT and the gang have the time to fill out the planeset, after all this is still primarily a ww2 flight sim isn't it?

Skurj you are taking the thing too seriously.

The debate on the ships thread is just that, a debate. Someone said that Iowas were better than Yamatos, and as I disagree we started debating it. Nothing to do with the incoming ships in AH.

So calm down, noone asks for nitpicking details in the ships. At least, me not

Sure SKurj, I'd like to see the focus remain on aircraft too.  But I want the ones that took off from carriers, torpedeod capital ships, strafed merchantmen and troop carriers, chewed to pieces seaplanes and caught the third wire back home.

I also like the idea of raining death and destruction from an offshore platform.
ANd, yeah, my thinking is: "If you think it takes a long time to do the artwork for a bomber..."

Hi All,
The only thing I hope ships bring with them is some form of Shallow water around islands so the can't park themselves right on the coast to bombard airfields.

Naw we just need shore batteries, that would solve problems real quick.

If ya can't get the job done with an 8" gun I doubt a 12", 14", 16" or even 18" will do much better!

Adding ships and features to make them useful will augment the air combat.  Air combat is a lot more than just fighter to fighter stuff and you need to have more to the game than that in order to support other aircraft.  It creates roles for specialized planes such as carrier aircraft, torpedo bombers, and anti-shipping specialists.  It opens up the doors to even more specialized planes like flying boats.  There's also the diversionary fun of things like PT boats, LVTs, and shore bombardment, but that's really secondary.

The possibilities of fleet to fleet engagements in specialized scenario terrains will be on a whole new level as well.

This is something we've planned since we first announced the game.  At that time we stated we are an air combat game first and foremost and that hasn't changed.  But we have to incorporate other elements on some level to bring out the most on the air combat side.

<S> Pyro!!!

Combat aircraft exist to destroy or protect ground targets.  Period.  Without all the stuff on the ground, it's not air combat.

oh oh - only if we can quietly land troops on the shore nearby, and have a "Guns of Navarone" scenario

Thanks PYRO

I was just a little concerned about the debates on ship types that people appeared to be requesting.  I agree that the naval additions will add ALOT to the sim.  I just feel that a generic fleet is fine for the moment +)  Don't want you guys spending ALOT of time on the ship models. Also by designing a generic fleet you avoid the "but that class ship had such and such an armament etc.."  +)  Ok in time historical ship classes would be great, but for now we need historical naval combatants in the air to go with it.

REALLY looking forward to 1.05
