Project B25-J The Birth
« on: April 08, 2010, 12:52:15 PM »
Spring is almost here, so I'm starting my build and by the time I'm done it should be great flying weather, i posted awhile back i got this kit of a B25, the kit was around 225 and not a name brand, at first i was hesitant about getting it but i watched some videos made with this plane and decided to get it,  Wingspan is 102 , fuselage is 62 long, After opening it up the plane looks well constructed and has the typical wrinkles in the covering ( heat gun will smooth it out ) a quick test fit shows very little trimming for tight fits will be needed, wings square up nicely and cowls fit snug ( will trim some off) plane called for twin 54's couldn't find any i liked so i went with alittle more power with twin 61's.

After a quick placement of the electronics Ive noticed the Bombay area is completely empty, now they make 3 inch plastic 2 piece bombs ( fill with flour) and the bay looks like it will hold 4 in a rack/slide type drop setup, only mod's ill have to do is cut the bomb bay doors in and use a hinge and servo setup for opening and closing and dropping of the flour bombs, also there is enough room to do retracts in the motor/fuel tank housing, I'm stoked about this build and will update pics as i go, here's the start, took the pics on my king size bed, this planes BIG !!

Twin 61's should lift this bird with power to spare

Very nice, you could think about painting over some of the extra glass in the section and turning her into a strafer.  Those horse head decals looks like the tail markings of the 500BS of the 5th AF and tail number 130 669 is "Tondelayo" which had quite the ordeal on one of the Rabaul raids.

I have a friend who does airbrushing, im thinking on getting some fuel proof paints and have him do a more time era paint job, put some weathering affects to make it look vintage not new looking, i would like to find some pics of Doolittles raiders and pattern it after that, all the makering will be airbrushed on, I'm not going to use the decals looks to cheesy for me

I'm an avid supporter of electric when it comes to twins, especially if you want it to be a solid flyer. Your going to have a hard time keeping the engines tuned right, along with keeping them running while flying. My advice would be if you were going to put on-board glow, because I think that keeps the glows from dieing, but there is no garuntees.

Good luck with the project on the other hand! Keep us posted, I want to see that baby fly before I leave in August! hehe
