This just seems like a natural for AH.  With such an active naval presence, it would be a nice addition (in both arena and scenario play...not only as a light bomber, but as recon).

I realize there are many more requests for AC than there are resources to develope them, but it seems as though a seaplane might be easy enough to code concidering the other additions HTC has made (PTs, etc) that interact with the water.

Just tossing it out there......

Use the catalina as an airborne radar. Something able to replace the radar for a couple of sectors for when the radar is down
Dat jugs bro.

Spooky,

Here is a pair of fixed 20mm cannons mounted in the bow of a "Black Cat" PBY-5A, during April of 1944

and later PBY-5A's were equipped with the twin .30 caliber eyeball bow turret

I'm TOTALLY with Pepe on this one... rescuing downed pilots would be a really, really cool feature.

Thirdup, I couldn't agree more. The Cat is perhaps the most beautiful seaplane ever and was used in a high number of roles. I feel it would be a great addittion to AH. The idea of rescuing downed pilots is fantastic! That would be a supreme feautre, I cincerely hope it can be done. And regarding making a plane land on water, if it's not really possible as of now, regard taking a piece of airfield make it invisible and stick it under the plane permanently. That way, she would be able to land on water. It's being done by Snickers in sdoe, a brilliant approach imo.

Let's have the Cat, please!!!

riiigghhtt... because I can see people waiting 10 mins bobbing in the ocean waiting for maybe a pickup.

The idea for mobile dar might work, but a a/c like a Nightfighter might be a more ideal platform.

Short Sunderland for my choice.

steeely,

Glad you could get your subscription.

Its neat that your grandfather served on Sunderlands, but I hardly think that 8 .303s in turrets, 4 .303s fixed in the wings and a 50 cal in each waist position counts as the heaviest armament.  The H8K2 "Emily" carried 5 20mm cannon and several 7.92mm machine guns which is a far heaver armament.

Ive given some thought to the use of unarmed or lightly armed recon planes.

They could easily be setup to relay information back to the fleet for shore bombardment.

Something as simple as getting the plane in the air once within a certain range of the airfield the pilot could use the mouse cursor to select a target, say an FH.  This would make target information available to the fleet gunners.

Might make the role of recon plane actually valuable
