System shutdowns more frequent since last patch
« on: April 10, 2010, 02:06:09 PM »
Not sure if this is a HT problem and not sure if this is the right forum for this but here goes:
I have had instances where my system will start to shut down during game play. The screen goes to black and the last 2 seconds of sound I heard goes into loop. This has been infrequent in the past so I never worried about it. Since down loading the patch yesterday I can stay up and running for only a few minutes now. I have updated my AV to recognize HTC. I have loaded the latest Vid drivers from Invidia. I don't think the CPU is shutting down from heat (runs at 123F). My guess is compatibility issues with the Vid card. New card about a year ago and this problem seems to have begun sometime after the new CPU and vid card install although not right away. May not be related to either????  I will include my system and vid info for anyone who would care to help me out with this one. Many thanks:

Sounds like you are overheating and/or video card is hosed.

I had a bad vid card and I got the sound loop then shutdown.

That particular 9800GT was notorious for overheating and I figured that was it.  I never did manage to fix it after untold hours of trying/tweaking.  For awhile I thought it was the power supply but that wasn't it.  I finally just replaced the vid. card and all is good.

Do you have another vid. card you could pop in to see if the problem goes away?

Just to be clear...  are you saying your CPU temp is running at 123 deg. Fahrenheit?

Could be power supply as well as system RAM causing the issue.

Thanks for the reply! Affirmative .... CPU temp 123F. Does that seem high to anyone? Was thinking it was within normal ranges. The power supply is 450W or 500W dual fan. I'll grab a bigger supply today and see what happens. Then a new vid card.....Then a new CPU...then a new MB......... LOL

123F at idle?  That would be pretty high.

Well the 123F was seconds after the boot which happens when in the game and a lot going on around me. Anyway, got a 1gb vid card today, put a couple of hours on it and no problems so far. We'll see.

Thanks
