Which Mosquito Bomber is most appropriate/desired?
« on: October 28, 2001, 05:24:00 PM »
I would hope to see a Mosquito Bomber by the time of AH 1.12 or 1.13.

Here are the major versions and some pros and cons about them:

Mosquito B.IV Series 2
Top speed: 380mph at 13,000ft
Engines: 2 1,230hp Merlin 21 or 2 1,480hp Merlin 23 engines
Armament: None
Payload: 4 500lb bombs
Number Built: 235

Pros: Earliest Mosquito bomber produced in numbers.
Cons: Insufficient bombload to have any real effect in AH's MA, low production numbers.

Mosquito B.IV Special
Top speed: 380mph at 13,000ft
Engines: 2 1,480hp Merlin 23 engines
Armament: None
Payload: 1 4,000lb bomb
Number Built: 20 converted from Mosquito B.IV Series 2s

Pros: I carries a Cookie.
Cons: Extremely low production numbers, laterally unstable.

Mosquito B.IX
Top Speed: 415 Mph at 28,000 ft
Engines: 2 1,680hp Merlin 72/73 with a two-stage supercharger or 2 1,710hp Merlin 76/77 with a two-stage supercharger engines
Armament: None
Payload: 6 500lb bombs, 4 in the bomb bay and 1 under each wing
Number Built: 54

Pros: Better performance and much better altitude performance with a usable bombload.
Cons: Extremely low production numbers.

Mosquito B.IX Special
Top Speed: 415 Mph at 28,000 ft
Engines: 2 1,680hp Merlin 72/73 with a two-stage supercharger or 2 1,710hp Merlin 76/77 with a two-stage supercharger engines
Armament: None
Payload: 1 4,000lb bomb
Number Built: Unknown, extremely few converted from Mosquito B.IXs

Pros: Better performance and much better altitude performance while carrying a Cookie.
Cons: Extremely low production numbers, laterally unstable, probably a perk bomber.

Mosquito B.XVI
Top Speed: 415 Mph at 28,000 ft
Engines: 2 1,680hp Merlin 72/73 with a two-stage supercharger or 2 1,710hp Merlin 76/77 with a two-stage supercharger engines
Armament: None
Payload: 1 4,000lb bomb
Number Built: 1,200

Pros: Better performance and much better altitude performance wile carrying a Cookie, lateral instability fixed, fuel range increased and pressurized.
Cons: Probably a Perk Bomber.

Which do you think is the best choice?

I would like the see the B.XVI added as a perk bomber and the B.VI Series 2 added as the freebie Mosquito Bomber.

I don't think so brady.  The B.XVI has a better chance at getting to the target than the Ar234 does.  The Ar234 has a better chance of getting home.

In addition, the B.XVI carries a heavier payload.  Send a raid of 6 B.XVIs to an enemy HQ and its a dead HQ, unless an Me262 shows up to save it.

B XVI can it carry other ord besides the 4k egg? like multi 500's etc?

No need to perk em, they have no guns, and the 51, G10, P47, 152, temp, f4u4, 262, will all catch it

The XVI sounds like a good choice. Maybe make it a really cheap perk...like 4 or 5 points.

Why did they build 1200 of these if they only carried a single giant bomb. Were they mainly used to bomb civilan targets at night like the other RAF bombers. Or were they used a "special" precision attackers in daylight?

S! Grunherz

Gestapo Headquarters were favorite targets.

Or V2 sites.

GRUNHERZ,

I slapped that post out quickly.

On further review it looks like the Mosquito B.XVI could carry 1 4,000lb bomb or 6 500lb bombs, 4 in the bomb bay and 1 under each wing.

Focke Wulf Ta-154 "Moskito". Oh wait you want one that actually had more than 5-15 produced.... :D  :p

If that one were to be introduced EVER! It should be a similar perk plane to the Me-262 though since the Germans only built a very small number of them.
