I want WW1 fights like this

More of what I had envisioned other than our below-the-treetops fighting in WW1 arena:

That would have been a better movie if they had avoided the romance but it ended up being another Pearl Harbor movie with the only redeeming trait being special effects.

As to the WW1 arena... its not for everyone now is it?  :headscratch:

Before we got the WW1 arena, I would not have guessed all the fighting would be at 100ft. or less.  At least a few thousand feet.  Oh well, it's still a neat clip.  I never saw the movie.  Guess I'll have to make some offline missions to get this type of fighting.  I love the arena, just don't understand why all the fighting has to cut the grass at the same time. :headscratch:

Not in its current form.

Note the context of those battles.

Bombers on the way to vital targets.

Interceptors trying to stop the bombers getting to their target.

Escorts trying to stop the interceptors.

Ballons, attacks on ballons, defense of ballons.

Purpose.  Goal oriented battle.  Conflict.  Drama.  Excitement. Fun.

(BTW, it looks like that movie would ROCK!)

While no means perfect, it was IMO still quite far from the amazing cheeseness of Pearl Harbour...

I cant agree because I see the same quality of historical inaccuracy in both films.

 keep reaching for the sky.  It's a larger scale production movie, don't expect it to be accurate.  Save that for books and some documentaries.

Red Baron was a disappointment.  Obviously the CGI was excellent but that couldn't make up for the screenplays shortcomings.

Well I don't now about excellent CGI...the F-16 -like roll rate of the Albatrosses was a bit hilarious. :)

All the 'classic' aviation movies are cheesy, it just comes with the territory. Most people won't shell out to sit through a three-hour episode of 'Wings'.
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

It wouldn't be if there was a proper WW1 arena where the fighters flew to attack high-flying recce two-seaters and bombers, instead of just a Great War DA mosh-pit.

Basically the WWI arena needs to be set up kinda like that. Or like Tour of duty was going to be set up here. Or how FSO is set up.
To garner any real interest from the community at large it needs to be more mission oriented.

Right now its just a low alt circle jerk. Which is fine for a few as is evidenced by the relatively low numbers that go there. But quickly looses the interest of the majority.

If you want to get into a quick fight. or just have time to do a quick fight or two WWI is great. But if your playing several hours  a night almost every night. For most WWI is going to loose your interest pretty quickly.

Damn shame too inasmuch as what an outstanding job HTC did in creating it.

First you'd have to have a reason for Recon and bomber planes to get to 5 - 8k.
Then you'd need fighter sweeps to intercept them, and escorts to protect them.

While I enjoy the low level furball, it needs things other than that to keep people interested.
I think the way the numbers have dropped off shows that pretty clearly.

Balloon busting, convoy strafing, zep hunting, things to do other than just endless furball.
These will all help keep people in the arena, flying around. Scattering the fights, getting people to different altitudes, etc.

It doesn't necessarily have to have anything to do with winning the war. It has everything to do with giving people something different to do when they've been shot down 3 times in a row in the furball.

Ghosts,

We are mostly in agreement.

However, in the WWII arena, if strat targets had no effect, if hangars, barracks, fuel depot, etc were invulnerable or destroying them made no difference, would many people bother to roll bombers to essientially waste their time?

Its a shame.  I feel like the WWI arena is getting smothered in the crib.

BUt uhhhh, I guess we are hijacking this thread.  :lol

Yep. And the WW1 arena has none of that. It's just a biplane DA.
