The Skink!

It is an anti-aircraft tank built on a Sherman chasis and it is armed with 4 20mm cannon.  This thing is a really neat looking AA tank.

Come on Canadians, help me out here!

OOOoooooooo....... !!!!

I'm not Canadian, but that would be VERY nice

On the other hand, no forget it. The Ostwind is a pain in the butt enough. x4 20's (Hispano's I assume at that) with the current "uber-buff" gunnery system, and lots of ammo would make it even worse.

Nice Vehicle though. How many of them were made? (not that it really matters)

Vermillion,

They built 3, and made an additional 8 conversion kits for a total of 11.  Then they sent 1 to Europe to be tested in combat and discovered that they didn't need it because the wasn't enough of the Luftwaffe left to warrent full scale production, so they stopped.  Of course, if the Luftwaffe had still been a force to reckon with the Canadians would have built it in numbers at least matching the Ostwind.

Clarification:  In my top post I said it was based on the Sherman. It was more specificly based on the Grizzly, the Canadian built version of the Sherman of which 188 were built.

Here's a shot of the turret casing:

I bet nearly anything those are Oerlikon 20mm's.

AFAIK the Hispano was never adopted to ground use...besides, those big boxes around the base of the gun are more then likely coverings for the recoil springs on the Oerlikon AA gun.

Looks like the licensed version of the M4A2 judging by the side armor and tread covers...must of been pre-Sherman V.

Canadians?  You press for Canadian marking on aircraft, now here is an honest to God Canadian vehicle, not just somebody else's done up in Canadian markings.

Lets get some support here, shall we?

Skink had 20 mm Polsten cannons.

Canadiens also developed a tracked APC based on their Ram tank.

Thanks for the interest Karnak.
I think if experimental AA vehicles where adopted then the Skink would loose out to US, German and British designs.
The Kangaroo would be cool.
