Kill Shooter on trees.
« on: April 21, 2010, 01:38:13 PM »
Minding my own business, shooting at a spit in an Osti, clip a tree with a round and get turreted. Oddness indeed.

This is not a bug, and it's not a killshooter issue.
Killshooter is, when you hit an enemy and get the damage applied to yourself.

In this case, you were simply too close to the structure (tree) you were hitting. You were getting the fragments & concussion from your own shell exploding into your turret, taking it out. Looking at the film, I saw the round hitting the tree right above your open turret, maybe just 6-8 feet away. A 37mm HE shell exploding right over you crew's head...

This works with every GV and plane. Take a 109K or P-39 and drive it close to a hangar and shoot your cannon at the wall....

But Lusche, trees ARE the enemy!

Thanks for the explanation. <S> However, should hitting a leaf on a tree cause fragmentation of a round?

Hitting just a leaf not, but hitting a solid branch... very likely the fuse will go off and cause the round to detonate.

Just a point to add, this happened with my wirbel yesterday. I was a bit annoyed at the "ricochet" from a tree.

Not really a ricochet but more like splash damage. That is comparable to dropping your bomb and then flying through the splash causing your plane to become damaged.

I've damaged myself from my own 30mm by landing taters on aircraft in a knife fight with mine. It isn't unusual...
