Sancho, they didnt exactly have stringent requirements for the paints to keep the same shade, so the colours would vary from batch to batch, often quite radicly.
I remember reading comments about how the skyblue could vary from light blue to dark blue depending on which bucket you chose  :).
But..I tend to lean towards the greener version of the olive drab :).
 Also, that picture appears to be a WW2 one, where the colours were often over-saturated.
 As for the shape-oddities, it seems to be, if not deliberate, then a necessity due to polygon-count restriction.

Olive drab is a very flat, brownish green initially, but lots of thinner was used to make the paint last longer...

As to why our OD planes are so green, I have no idea. It looks more like the German standardized dark green/medium green then a variant of OD

An oft forgotten aspect of aircraft camouflage color is wheatering. Most basically you have dirt, oil stains, sun fading, water damage, damage from crews etc. An interesting additional effect was also present on USAAF OD painted fighters operating in Northern Europe. Most of their flights took them up to and over 30k often for many hours at time, at there altitudes the amount of radiation is extremly high compared to lower altitudes. This radiation somehow interacted with the OD paint often giving it a darker almost brown/purple tint. USSAAF planes in the pacific didnt experience this effect due to generally lower operational altitudes.

Hehe, plane 28 is the same plane a month later.  I like it with the red cowl better.

p47 razorback looks cool but IMHO there are many more interesting schemes not to mention the red cowling vers. mentioned here

if we luftwobbles started cranking on about things missing on our planes we get called whiners!
