109 performs weaker now than in the early versions
« on: November 27, 1999, 07:23:00 AM »
Yesterday a p51 catched me in a circleclimb, and i took occasion to repeat my offline- climb tests.

I did  both measurements with a 50% fuel (no external fueltank), no wep, mk108, no gondolas, climbspeed 140 (autotrimm speed)

Here are the results, time for 3000ft climb in seconds
       109old  109new   ratio    P51
3000   45      52       0.86     54
6000   44      54       0.81     56
9000   45      55       0.82     56
12000  47      56       0.84     56
15000  47      58       0.81     64
18000  49      58       0.84     71
21000  49      61       0.80     74
24000  54      67       0.80     76

109 perfoms between 15-20% weaker now in the climb. That means about 15% less power.
I repeated also the measurement for the p51 to be sure that it is not the P51 that performs better now, but the results are the same.

Yes, Niklas, I noticed something strange too. 109 seems to lack its former acceleration, climb asd speed. Didn’t Pyro say that there is something wrong in WEP power of 109 (Fishu’s thread of 500ft speeds).

Right now 109 lost its historical advantage, and combined with its historical weaknesses, it is really meat on the table in this version.

Please HTC crew, look into this.

P.S.
Did anyone compare stall speeds of 109 and P 51 ?

Thanks for the tests, I did a spot check on some of your figures. I couldn't get that much speed out of the Spit. It does look like we do have a discrepency in the Spit's airspeed indicator, but it was showing slower. The 109 figure was really slow too and I checked it and got about the same result. WEP performance is off for some reason.

This can be found in the General Discussion forum under the Max speed at 500ft thread.  You can safely bet it'll be looked into.

Lots of work needs to be done on stability and handling for all planes (snip)Hang on awhile and things will feel better. After the F4U, we'll concentrate on getting all the flight models completed and up to snuff. PYRO.

Enuff said.

Yes the 109 is a pork mobile now... I still fly it but it is lacking in its most important attribute, CLIMB..

It should be at least comparable  to a SPIT 9 but it flys more like a mustang  with  only 3000ft  per  min without wep and a whopping 3500ft/min with full wep..  note  this is  full tank   of gas  but considering this plane only  carried 90 to 100 gallons  of fuel, fuel  load shouldn't effect the 109 as    much   as  this  game makes   it  to  be..

109 is  death trap  at the  moment... the  only attribute it  does well  is  acceleration, and thats not a good  attribute to survive in open arena...

Just  my 2 cents,
