Typical furballer elitism - which is why all you ever do is end up flying in ever-diminishing circles until you disappear.

The persistent fable that WW1 combat flyers were 'Knights of the Air' dishonours the memory of the men who did it for real. But as I said earlier in this thread, this is only an arcade game, not a WW1 combat flight simulation, so play away to your heart's content in your new play-pen.

elitism...BAH, its fun, most furballs in the MAs include alot of HOing, picking, etc. WWIs different... its like a new old DA when people had a blast and nobody cared what happened. Knights of the Air, yeah i know the realism behind WWI, but this is a game like u stated. And like i also stated, when most people think of WWI they think in that fashion, wouldnt this create a larger player base? sure make another arena for WWI realism but im stickin with the dogfighting :aok
I am in need of a new epic quote

"In WWI the dogfights just...happen, theyre all fun and honorable flyers. never angry and always laughing and having a good time... no need to destroy the arena with bombers and score hos. Make a second WWI MA for that and leave the dogfight arena for a blast from the past. I'd love to get a Red Baron skin for my plane just to show "im the best, try me!"

I agree.  Any notion of them being 'Knights of the Air' went out the window when that Frenchman brought along a rifle.

Obviously I wasn't there when the RFC and Die Fliegertruppen des deutschen Kaiserreiches first took to the air; I only know what I've learned from books, documentaries etc. All indications are that this was a different age, when a mans' word meant something, and he made sure his daily toil produced something worthwhile. At the outset there was definitely an attempt to fight a 'gentlemans war', but with the escalation in firepower and aviation technology this could never last, not with the crews lives - and often much more - at stake. I think there is an attempt being made in the WW1 arena to hold on to some small thread of chivalry, as there was in the real air war. Not by everyone, but most of the good sticks seem to be pulling in the same direction. We can afford that luxury, it is after all a game. I'm not sure where the 'arcade' reference comes from, or even quite what it means. Some sort of payout? If so perhaps the reference is made by a real world pilot who has spent some time in a real cockpit? As have many of the players in the WW1 arena, including myself. We all seem happy enough with it so maybe it's subjective.

Fun is just fun; everyone who 'flies' a MMP combat flight sim is role playing. What's wrong with allowing the top guns a little extra colour and style?
