I got self moving shadows on no problem, but the other plane shadows is kaput for me.

I have 18 processes running in back ground,

CPU Name   AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5600+

should have been a little more specific, both self moving shadows and other plane shadow enabled and don't experience a FPS loss when zoomed in.

CPU: Core 2 Duo E6420 OC'd to 2.34Ghz
Video: HIS 4670 DDR3 1gig AGP
RAM: 2G

When I had a Sapphire 3850, then I took a performance hit (30fps loss) with self shadows on so I never used it with that card.

your duel core cpu is OC'd to 2.34 Ghz, is that the same as 2,340 MHz?

every time I try to get into Overclocking my system just shuts down and when I did get it stable is was so low of an overclock seemed pointless.

Yeah.  Out of the box, the E6420 is clocked at 2.13GHz but is one of those CPUs that is an over clocker's dream as you can overclock the hell out of it.  It can easily be overclocked to 3GHz+ if my motherboard wasn't the limiting factor and it remains amazingly cool with just stock cooling, though I have since replaced the stock fan (damn thing died) with an after market cooler.

Most of the E6xxx series will overclock like crazy.  I have a old E6300 running at 3.6Ghz, and been that way for over a year.  Never a burp, and has always run cool.
