Radeon HD 4850 for AH
« on: April 28, 2010, 04:40:06 PM »
Considering getting a 4850 vid card, I'd like to be able to run AH with detailed water and terrain, and maybe hi-res textures at 1920 x 1080 and 50+ fps.  Some anti-aliasing would be nice to, but not a deal breaker.

Can a 4850 handle that?

I don't play any other games except Flight Simulator X, I don't care if it will run the newest bestest games, I just would like to turn on some eye candy in AH.  Current card is Nvidia 8400, but I'm want to stay away from Nvidia because I am presently  plagued with apparently unsolvable Nvidia driver failures, freezing my screen all the time.

I have a Sapphire Toxic 4850 at home and it runs with everything enabled and high res textures just fine.  Take note though, the Toxic 4850 is clocked higher than the standard 4850's.

Dont know about the 4850 but I tried the 4870 x2 with FSX and I considered it a flop.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

Yes, the 4850 will be able to run AH at the highest settings.

I have a 3850 and it does well. I'm a big Radeon fan though.

Should the Radeon HD 4350 be able to run AH with everything on?

Not at all.  That is a 64 bit DDR2 memory interface card.  It will be pretty slow.

Generally speaking, if you want all the bells and whistles in the game, you will be spending $125.00 U.S., or more, on a video card.

I am running the 1 gig 4830 and have every thing maxed except the "shadows on others" new option, when I turn that on and zoom in to a plane FR goes to 2  :rofl

I do use the 512 shadows though, getting a solid 60 FPS even in big furballs and FSO.

My 4350 gives me a solid 45 FPS with everything turned on except detailed water and shadows.  I just want that extra eye candy  :x

My stock 4850 runs >60 fps virtually all the time at 1280x1024 with everything in AH maxed out (except other plane shadows are off) including 4XAA, 8XAF, 1024 smoothed self shadows and hires textures.

Really?  On my old machine that I run AH on, I have a HIS 4670 DDR3 1gig AGP card with full setting enabled in AH and don't experience a lost of FPS when zoomed with shadows enabled.

I got self moving shadows on no problem, but the other plane shadows is kaput for me.
