« on: April 29, 2010, 07:32:12 AM »
the question here is which one is more survivable?

personally i think its the F6F because ive hit one w/ a 30mm round right behind the cockpit and it survived
having fun and getting killed since tour 110

F6F all the way. although Jugs can come close at times... flyingwise though i'd take the P47s.

Off topic, quick question... would the F6F outclimb a P51D? just out of in game curiousity

no. 51 outclimbs F6F. But the pony really needs to be light to in a close quarters knife fight in the vertical. When both planes are out of E, the F6F regains advantage has he accelerates faster with wep.

no. 51 outclimbs F6F

Every source I have states the opposite.

P-51D - 3,200ft/min
F6F-5 - 3,500ft/min

The F6F-5 also has a lighter loaded wing (wing loading) to achieve this.

I'm looking at Netaces. It looks to me as the 51 outclimbs F6F. But I probably ain't reading the dang chart right. Which would explain why I die so much i reckon  :lol Get back to me on this. If I've been reading these charts wrong all this time, I'm going to be really pissed  :furious :rofl

This is one of those times where it's more than appropriate to "steal a thread".   Sadly, this forum needs more of this type of "theft".

I have been noticing more and more planes being able to survive one 30mm hit to the fuselage. Some times it just kills the engine, other times I dont notice any damage. But the f6f is definately a tough plane to kill

On the original topic; I say the p47 IF you hold some fuel back in the AUX tank; otherwise the F6F walks away with the prize.

On the hijack topic; acording to the AH provided 'plane vs plane' compariosn: the pony-D out climbs the f6f except on the deck to about 400 feet (WEP & no WEP) & a little bubble from 15k-16k (without WEP)
