Visual ACM Websites
« on: May 03, 2010, 01:55:36 PM »
Hey, I've browsed a bit on here for previous topics, but most I can find are text explinations on manuvers.  While I love to read, I tend to be a visual learner.

Does anyone know of a site that has pictures of different manuvers mapping with like Red and Blue ribbons the path for different manuvers.  I had a sweet book as a kid (TOP GUN) that listed some very basic YoYo's and Split-S type stuff, but nothing too technical.  I was hoping someone may know of a site that lists something similar.

Thanks in advance.

Here are a couple good free references, the first is "In Pursuit" which was written before my time in online flight sims and I think was written with Air Warrior in mind but the principles should still apply.  The second is "No Guts No Glory" written by Lt Col. Blesse of the USAF as a training aid.

As far as I am aware both texts have been posted online for free download with permission.

Both works have good write ups as well as some diagrams showing what is being described, diagrams are nice and easy to understand but typically the series of events depicted only play out in the textbook maneuver if a preset series of conditions is met.  The text is important in understanding what those conditions are.  All the diagrams and maneuvers exist in a nearly infinite series of variations, without understanding the how and why the ACM in question worked they won't do you (or anyone) a lot of good.

We have a bunch of old (and I mean old) training articles by Rapier on our site, with those images.  I think those are what you're looking for.  Rap wrote them for another sim, but the basic concepts still apply.

So, for what it's worth, just go to our site (link in my signature), click on the "Training" menu item at the top, and you'll get a list of the articles.  Again, these are very old, and we keep them around more for sentimentality's sake than for applicability to AH, but the BFM stuff is still valid.

I'd recommend agents film pack watched with internal and external views, and lift vector ribbons turned on. You can search the film pack pretty easy.

Don't agent's film no longer work with the current version of AH?

I'll check when I get home, but that'd be unfortunate.

They fixed the player to run the old films. I've been watching them for the last week or so with no trouble.

Hey, thanks guys.  This is excellent.  I've only clicked the first link and am getting great visuals and explanations of what is going on.  I'm suprised at some of the stuff I already do without knowing what it is, and even more suprised at some simple techniques to counter a lot of stuff out there.  If any of you guys ever see me online and wanna offer some assistance, I'm always looking to learn more.

Thanks again for all the info.
