To be honest, a lot of trial and error throughout the years.  It also helps that the P-38 has been pretty much the only plane I've flown exclusively in the 17 years or so of playing online flight sims.

I'm leaving on a business trip late tonight and will be back sometime either late Thursday or early Friday morning.  When I get back we can schedule some time Saturday (need some time to rest after my trip) for some P-38 fights in the DA.
