Dell Ultrashap 2410 IPS LCD Display.

Anyone have one, If so what's the picture quality like? Because I've been everywhere today and I can't find one to judge for myself in person before I go and order one.

Dell's ultrasharp series used to be made by Samsung but that looks suspiciously like a LaCie...similar specs too.

I'm really after displays with IPS panels as they have better image quality, color accuracy and viewing angles.

Price doesn't bother me, I'm getting them for work(money back woot ), I will be gaming on them though. The company I buy my gear from are willing to give me a decent deal too.

Dell also offer 3 year warranty.

6ms response time is the only downside, which sucks a little bit, gaming wise.

I hate display shopping so dam much, my local megastores have jack all in stock so I can't test them out.

Well hell, if it's for work purposes and you're not going to be doing any gaming...that Ultrasharp should do the trick...did you look at the specs on the G2410H monitor? That one looks more like a Samsung panel than the Ultrasharp...but I'm just guessing since Dell uses 3 to 4 different vendors that change from year to year.

I was looking at those, but after reading a lot of reports about color shifts from left to right, and then how Dell was saying the monitor was working within specs, I passed on it.

I really wanted a 24" screen, but the reviews swayed me, and the HP 24" 2475 was a little too expensive, also having some reports of the color shifting.

I went with a 2209wa, which is also an IPS panel, and the color reproduction is tremendous.  My wife asked why I bought another 22" screen when I already had one (a nice LG), so I showed her the same picture on both by extending the desktop, and she understood.  The difference in color and image quality really is enormous.  The only real downside is that it's 1680x1050, if that matters to you.

There are some new 24" IPS panels out from HP now, if you're not firm on Dell, though I don't know how those are.

All in all, the IPS panel makes things look stunning.

Hey Kaz...I've had the 24" Ultra for about 3 yrs and can't complain about anything.  I have a GeForce 295 GPU card that has HDMI output and the graphics are noticeably better than a DVI output.  My job entails creating computer sim recreations for federal court cases and aviation reconstruction accidents, and the 3D detail is impeccable.  I also watch most of my dvd movies on it due to the exceptional graphics output.  Personally, I don't notice any issues with the response time, though I only play the game about once a month.  If I had to gripe about anything it's that I can't utilize my cards max resolution of 2560x1600, as the dell's max res is 1900x1200, but it's still brilliantly clear.  There may be better monitors out there, but you won't be disappointed in the dell unit.  I happened to find it at a warehouse closeout for just under $300 which was a great price at the time.  I hope that sheds a little light for you.

Thanks guys, I did notice a lot customer reviews with poor ratings in regards to the U2410. There is however a revison 1 model out now which I've read to be much better.

If there's a revision that has fixed the problems, that's good news.  And it sounds like Hawk has a good monitor on his hands.

My 2209wa has a 6ms response time too, and there aren't any monitor-related issues at all playing AH2.  There's no lag, ghosting, or anything that affects gameplay.  It's just rich and colorful now.  I would think the U2410 would perform the same.

Now, I don't play any other games on my PC, and I got the monitor to work on photos, so I can't help with any type of hardcore FPS.

But I can say that I'll won't ever go back to any type of TN panel again.

So guys,

I couldn't warrent spending £480/$600 per display for mainly gaming purposes.

I did however find a fantastic TN panel, LED backlit, 24" display which suits my needs better. (BenQ 2420HDBL.)

For a TN panel, I'll say the following:

Full 24" of screen space, when others in the price range are 23.5"
Whites are just fantastic.
Can't find any screen tint, dithering, no deal pixels.
Very good contrast.
Backlight bleed is minimal.
Colours are extremely vivid. It makes the colours on my year old display look super dirty and washed out.
Most importantly of all, input lag is fantastic!!!

Two more coming tomorrow plus I've got a second ATI HD5850 for eyefinity. Can't contain my joy, not bad way to spend some of my poker winnings.

I have to agree -- spending that much per display for gaming is sort of wasting money when you can spend it elsewhere.  Even if it's just poker winnings, which I'm guessing is extra cash to you.

I got a Dell 2410 when my CRT monitor packed up a few months ago. I had resisted going LCD for as long as possible due to colour reproduction and input lag issues. Also my CRT was giving me 85 fps and LCDs are only 60fps. After doing a lot of research I went with the Dell because its IPS display was better for my graphical work.

Also it has a gaming mode to reduce lag. All modern LCD displays do various processing tricks to improve image quality and this slows down the time from when the monitor gets the image until it displays it by up to three frames. The gaming mode cuts out a lot of this processing and cuts the lag to just over one frame at the penalty of a worse looking picture, its a bit too bright and saturated basically.

I've been very happy with it since I have had it. It takes up a lot less desk space than my old CRT and creates less heat too. The picture is bright and sharp with no banding and there are no duff pixels either. The USB 2.0 ports and SD card slot are handy as well.

The input lag is not the issue I thought it would be either. If I forget to switch to gaming mode there is a slight hesitation in the terrain moving past every few frames at low alt, but you have to look closely to notice it. The extra pixels (1900 by 1200 instead of 1600 by 1200) make up for the loss of framerate, which I don't really notice anyway.
