My dad says times have changed....
« on: May 08, 2010, 09:19:37 PM »
To begin the story, we had a team(football) event and we ate after. We decided to play basketball after we ate. Some people had to go do some things but we all met up. Few other people met up and soon we had a good 10-15 people there playing pick up basketball.

After a few hours later, a few more people show up. I was already tired and basketball is not a game I blessed to be able to play well. One guy pulls out his gun that hes showing to this one lady. Not pointing just showing. This other guy asks if anyone is wanting to get high, not me because I was sitting down on the fence watching people play. I had called my dad already to come pick me up from the courts but when I told him this. All he said is that now you can't even play basketball without someone having a gun or drugs on them.

I am not a drug user or dealer, or even experimented with alcohol. I understood early that if I want to get anywhere in the game that I love, football, that it will only break my  body down. Just wanted to get that clear.

I ask you all, have times changed or just a little worse than they used to be.

What does state matter, and probably marijuana.

Nah, not forever, only sometime in the 1300s.

They've seen some slight refinements since then though.  :p

Those things have been big problems for a very long time. The part that has changed is they have become alot more common place and the people that have them in less than approved places are alot more likley to flaunt both.

I have seen drugs that normally would only be seen in public on large city streets showing up at school functions in hillbilly land as well.
Haxxor has returned!!!!

I was at a party the summer after my senior year and a shotgun got pulled on someone, my friend was also robbed by some guys we knew with a 9mm.

Im not going to say anything about the weed but guns can be horrible in some peoples hands.

Times are tougher now for kids IMO, from when I went to school (mid 70s to 80s). More drugs in my time but we didn't have the violence and sex on TV and in music like there is now. School shootings were unheard of. We had no internet, music videos, or video games.
Now kids have cops stationed at school, piss tests to get a job, and the worry of wondering if some twit will bring a gun to school and shoot the place up. We used to carry our shotguns in gun racks in our trucks when we parked on school grounds. Everyone carried a pocket knife too. Nowadays the school will call in a SWAT team and lock you away for what we never gave a 2nd thought about.
Our society is going to hell in a hand basket now. And we can thank the media, big government, internet, video games, crack, MTV, taking prayer and spankings out of school, and a million other things for this. And it'll only get worse to the point where we implode from within, just as the Roman Empire did. We're losing our ethical, moral and family values more with each generation.  :old:

I misunderstood.  I thought you said your father did not want you to play basketball there anymore due to the drug and gun experience.
I also thought you felt in disagreement with your father's decision and are now trying to prove some point you have in disagreement with your father to overturn his decision.  I misread one important sentence that threw me off.  It was the "All he said is that now you can't even play basketball without someone having a gun or drugs on them." part that I misread.

My fault.

Edit: Thanks for the benefit of doubt.  I think I came across as strong and ignorant in my earlier post.   :o
