"What part of "Rule #14" do you people not understand?"

Really Simple...We are AMERICANS: Men and Women have Fought and died for many of the rights we ALL have: In this case FREEDOM OF SPEECH is the issue. Censorship is not taking kindly to Americans....eventhough its a "Private site". Still hard for some to come to grips with.

Constitutional Rights are checked at the point where you click to enter the BBS.

I'd shade this: you have a Constitutional right to associate with whom you please and to establish rules within your place of business/other property. This is an HTC-adminsitered site and the owner is under no obligation to allow any old garbage.

That' s a big part of the reason why, though I don't smoke, that I found it incomprehensible that the MI legislature now tells restaurant owners that they cannot allow smoking w/in their places of business.

So, I'd say Person A's rights extend to Person B's nose/threshold. That's also part of the reason that current parlance (e.g. a "right" to health care) makes no logical sense. Legislators are defining "rights" that obligate someone else for their provision - a kind of robbing Peter to pay Paul. That makes Peter sore and it's hard to operate with a sore peter.

Now, Karaya, why didn't you tell Kam where to put the patronizing salute?

It's one thing to have a right to free speech in America, but it never said in the constitution that you can say what you want in a private forum.  Those rules were put in place to avoid topics and discussions that will almost always result in hard feelings and arguments that will not be resolved.  It's better to avoid those topics then deal with the anguish of dealing with them.  We come from all walks of life here and many different countries and to accomodate all of them, those rules were put in place.  To original topic wasn't a problem that I see, but the hijacking of the thread caused the lock.
As far as the rules, in my opinion, it is a priviledge to be able to post here, not a right.  It's owned by HTC, and they want to represent the company in the best possible manner so as to include everyone, not exclude anyone due to their opinions on topics.  To avoid those posts altogether is a way to step towards that.

LOL...You didn't get it clearly. I do Not disagree with the policy as I stated in my Post. I was explaining Skuzzys rhetorical statement.

Yes, you did say that the understanding was "hard to come by" for some of them w/r the Private Site.

I'll vouch for you and your patronizing salute.

Just for fun. A private business AKA: Employer does not have many rights to do or treat whom ever or how ever they want. In time that WILL extend to forums on the internet. Laws are way behind the ball in Cyberspace.

I'd reverse it: The RW will look more like cyberspace in future. History marches away from command economies and towards freer, more individually-based ones, albeit with regressions here and there.

Also, don't confuse laws and rights. The two are quite independent. You may be legally shipped off to Auschwitz - but that doesn't mean the shipper has the right to do so.

I think we're starting to walk back into a Rule 14 violation.

Actually I stated:" Still hard for some to come to grips with."

LOL @ on patronizing, not the intent. The intent was agreeing with the policy from HTC and being empathetic to others struggles to and inherent right.

This is a privately owned site...they can dictate and or censor anything they want in any manner they want regardless of what anyone outside of the company thinks. It would be easier to just forget about discussing anything more intellectual than Swoops Wednesday Babe...maybe delve into someone's shoe size once in a while...nothing to do with real life.

I'm really surprised the threads on the Russians with the pirates and the Judge jailing the girl with a bad t-shirt haven't been locked with some "see rule #"...
